Hi Chad,
thank you for accepting my friend request, I really liked your comments on “Lost Generation of LAs?”
I don’t think you should feel any shame regards the current situation if there where more people like you in charge in the last few decades it could be a much better situation right now. I’m not familar with the posts of younger people looking to point the finger but I would say to all of them stop looking to blame others, build a bridge people, pick yourself up dust yourself off and as mahatma gandhi would say “be the change you wish to see in the world”
take care Chad

I have to say I whole heartedly agree with Jon Quackenbush’s reply, It is important to know that it is not a get rich quick profession and it requires alot of personal input and hard work with very little return sometimes, it could be equated to a vocation. Its an enjoyable field to work in but can be very harsh at times. I am 33 years of age now and I still ask myself is this worth it? But I enjoy the work and can’t imagine doing anything else. whatever you decide best of luck

I will certainly post some images of the grass roof as soon as i can. I have been taking photos through the construction phase, I only seeded the roof in september and there is not much to look at at the moment.
~I am hoping by the end of the summer there should be a nice sward and lots of wildflowers on the roof.
So once that has happened you will be one of the first to see themRegards

“One foot in the past” It’s an interesting and informed comment.
While it may be true that our older generations have one foot in the past, It would not be accurate to assume this of the younger generations in our country. With the peace process in action now for almost 16 years our country has come to a time where younger people wouldn’t understand or wouldn’t feel the need to have “one foot in the past” to identify with their cultural heritage.
As a nation we are proud of our history but we don’t wear it as a badge. We have been mentally unshackled from our own cultural heritage in this sense, whereby we don’t feel the need to harp on about the past. This doesn’t mean we are not informed or don’t appreciate our heritage it just means we are not letting it hold us back, life is too short for that kind of craic. Enough politics now as this is a landscape forum, I just taught you might appreciate the political views regarding the majority of young Eire. Bring on the Ireland of rain gardens and grass roofs!!!!All the best

February 14, 2010 at 1:27 pm #170987Colm DooleyParticipantHi
I’ve just finished a 50 sq ms grass roof in my own house and I’m a happy client does that count? : )
well not happy with one of the outlets but that s my own fault, lesson learnt, i’m hoping it will inspire others. green roofs and rain gardens are the way of the future in Ireland hopefullyFebruary 4, 2010 at 11:42 pm #177217Colm DooleyParticipantWell I’ve always considered it as simple as this and only R Buckminister Fuller could say it so well
“When I am working on a problem, I never think about beauty but when I have finished, if the solution is not beautiful, I know it is wrong. That is great design

That is wise worldly advise, Where where you and the land 8 lounge nine years ago when i was starting my own business and so unprepared.
Alot of time has passed since I started my own business and I still find it hard to get the billing balance correct, All ye designers out there follow Keith’s golden rules.
