Residential Design Group 15 years, 9 months agoHi, I’ve recently started working for a small residential design/build company and I’m wondering how other people go about estimating construction costs. Is there some great piece of software that makes the process easy, or do people rely on their own knowledge of material and labor prices. It seems like the estimating software I’ve looked at are…[Read more]

The Sustainable Sites Initiative 15 years, 9 months agoI agree with Heather about building a track record of using the SSI. It is through application in the real world that tools like the SSI show their strengths and value.

The Sustainable Sites Initiative 15 years, 9 months agoI am anxious to see the outcome of the pilot projects. I think the real world application and testing of Sites is of the upmost importance and we will learn a great deal from this process.

The Sustainable Sites Initiative 15 years, 10 months agoHi Heather! You and I have had many past conversations when you were in the trenches with SSI. So what are your current thoughts from your new perspective relative to what needs to happen to keep the SSI momentum going? Is practical application the key….or are there other issues that are just as critical?
You’ve been a great resource…..hope…[Read more]

SketchUp 15 years, 10 months agoGreat idea starting this group!
I’ve read Daniel Tal’s book, and it is very helpful in breaking down the process of creating efficient 3D models. This group should be a good place to share ideas and learn new tips. -

California Native Plants 15 years, 10 months agodoes anyone know how rain gardens thrive in the Bay Area? I am wondering because right now, its the rainy season, so everything is getting a lot of water – but when it is summer and dry, how do the plants in the rain garden get their water? What plants do you suggest putting in the rain garden?
