Just sat for the GA Exam and passed on the first attempt. It’s definitely distilled down from the old version of the exams. From my perspective the LEED GA is a great credential for LAs to have the distinction, but without having to go through the specialty portions that are beyond our typical work. Sustainable Sites is where I’m placing my emphasis.

Nick,
Thanks! I’ll probably be doing more of these in the future and I would like to seed them be as representative of the true design as possible. Thanks!

Thanks. I’m trying to get some of my classmates on. Eric Higginson is one so far. I know there are more that are working in Fort Collins at local firms.

Have you personally gone to the firms you’ve applied to? I know for me, I felt much better if I could personally deliver my materials rather than mail them to be put in the pile with the rest of the mail. Don’t forget to follow up with those you’ve submitted applications to. First with a thank you, then with a formal request of the status of your…[Read more]

I was approached by the firm I did the contract work for. They understood my situation and that I was getting ready to relocate, however they really needed some help on a very large project. I didn’t learn of the scenario until I followed up with them after an interview for permanent work. I set up a contract with them like you would any client to…[Read more]

I would agree that it’s something probably used to protect the corners. But at roughly 2′ tall (based on the bricks in the photo) I can’t think of what exactly it would be protecting the structure from.
I have an uncle that is an Architect/LA in the Philly area that may have a better idea of what exactly it is. His name is Rick Ragan. His firm is…[Read more]

Could you elaborate on what it is attached to? It’s hard to get a sense of what purpose it might serve without the context of it. I would question if it is purely aesthetic or if it is a functional piece perhaps enclosing something behind it. Would be possible to remove it to look for some kind of manufacture id in the inside of it since it has…[Read more]

The best advice I was given when preparing for the exams is THEY ARE NOT REAL WORLD PROBLEMS AND DO NOT HAVE REAL WORLD SOLUTIONS! It’s especially frustrating for those who have been out practicing for a while. You get used to having people getting variences and creating shared spaces based on use at different times or getting departments within…[Read more]

I just recently filled the only LA position in my firm in a region where there aren’t many LA’s practicing locally. I’ve been asked to develop some marketing strategies to increase what I can bring in to the firm. Any thoughts as to how to develop the marketing side of what I can provide clients?

I recently relocated to Iowa from Arizona. I’m the only LA in my firm and the guys here seem to understand the want for the LA side of projects. The harder sell is to the clients, especially when I don’t get put in contact with them until a plan is needed to meet city requirements. Any suggestions as to convincing the Project Manager to bring me…[Read more]
