What state are you in? Most licensing boards require some amount of time working under the supervision of a Licensed Landscape Architect, not a contractor.

yes ASLA is woefully out of touch OR perhaps just blatantly disregarding the very large elephant in the room. I did not renew my membership this year, simply not in my budget.

Still hanging on to my job. We have let people go, taken salary cuts, and most recently, hour reductions. I have considered going back to school to study an alternate field if things get worse for me.

Just a couple of ideas that I have used on various projects: 1.) small planters along the base of the wall – keeps skaters from building up speed) 2.) exposed aggregate concrete, or paver bricks for the walking surface makes it tough to skate on 3.) utilize scoring patterns as previously mentioned.

No offense but that is hideous. I hope that detail is blending in with some unseen site features. Not only does it deter skateboarders, but anyone who may want to enjoy the space.
