Marc Garon-NielsenParticipantThese percentages could be used as a general rule of thumb. In practice, minimum billable hours are all over the place. Every firm has its own targets and other metrics that influence the minimums; including firms that don’t measure billable hours at all.

Marc Garon-NielsenParticipantDepending on the application . . .
http://www.lolldesigns.com/ (the website is limited re: sizes, contact a sales rep for the full range, some are up to 96″)
http://www.barkmansitefurnishings.com/ (we have specified these on a project that required very large planters)

Marc Garon-NielsenParticipantHi Goustan,
The original post may be a little misleading. The 6”x6” or 8”x8” timbers aren’t intended to be a full seated bench, but rather a temporary perch while working in the garden plot (there are legitimate benches throughout the space for those looking for a place to rest). The wider edge also allows for placing hand tools (anything narrower and it becomes a balancing act).
The programming direction from the client was to provide resident garden space (nothing beyond that) and the ultimate users do not know that the apartments (or the community gardens) will exist. There are several existing community gardens in vacant lots near this development, with waiting lists for plots, which means demand is already there without the addition of this apartment complex. Hope this provides some context and some rationale for the decisions made to date.

Marc Garon-NielsenParticipantHi Edward, http://groups.google.com/group/lare-exam has additional vingnettes . . . a word of caution, since most of these vignettes are scans of copied, copies, they aren’t always at the scale listed. Also, some of the types of questions (even in the PPI books) aren’t types of questions that are tested anymore. As a rule of thumb if there is a planting design component or pipe sizing component in a vignette question these are not tested as part of C and E anymore.

Marc Garon-NielsenParticipantReady, Set, Practice was definitely a great book for section A of the LARE. It has been a few years since reading, but I would take it as a guide and not the gospel if you are thinking of starting your own practice since things have changed quite a bit in the past 15+ years.
