I have used it to do some quick rendering of SketchUp models. It was somewhat confusing at first (having limited experience with 3D software), but I was able to pick up the basics for what I wanted to do pretty quickly.

For the past year or so I have been reading more and more concept art books and ordering dvd’s from Gnomon Workshop. They say art is something like 10 years ahead of architecture and landscape is five or ten years behind the architects. I think the film and entertainment (concept art) industry is the upper level of design and visulaization. In ten or fifteen years we’ll all be working in techniques more closely resembling the likes of dylan cole and feng zhu. The DVD’s available at Gnomon are expensive but well wroth it. I would recommend looking at the aforementioned artists and anything “digital matte 2d painting” and “concept”. Some of the other stuff can be a little weird and more concerned with figure drawing and vehicles.Let me know how it goes..

As an MLA student, I want to connect with and learn from practicing professionals, as well as other students. It has been an excellent resource so far – especially for learning new graphic techniques. I always study graphics found in books, as well as LAM, but it’s great to see what other people are doing through the gallery feature.

For the first project, we continued on individually. The second project was going to be the same way, however we all decided that it would be good experience to complete the design work as a group.
The second project was definitely a ton of work – it takes SO much more time and effort to decide on a design when you have 3 people providing input. But I am glad we did it, since that’s how it will be in the real world. It was also great as a learning experience because we all had different skills/areas of expertise to contribute and learn from.
I agree with you Andrew – my initial reaction is that I’d rather do the design work individually, however I know the that group design work is really important as well.
