As of right now, I don’t believe anyone from my graduating class has found an LA position. Some have internships, but thats about as far as it goes.

I did a 3-month internship with a Chinese company in Hangzhou, China near Shanghai. Hangzhou is a smaller city, but it is also a big tourist place. I worked predominately on layouts for new high-rise apartments and shopping areas. The language barrier and the difference in culture were the hardest things to overcome. I suggest trying to find out as much about the culture before you head over because it came in handy to understand cultural norms and cultural history while designing. As far as language goes, Rosetta Stone rocks. there is also http://www.chinese-tools.com/learn/chinese which helped me a ton. One very important thing to know is that business is definately about who you know: guanxi=personal relationships
Because I was still a student, I lived in an international dorm at a nearby university. I was given a food stipend, a cellphone, and some spending money every two weeks. This was enough to survive but it would not be enough to pay back loans or to travel around china much. hope that helps some.

The head of the company had already planned to come see my university so I just met with him then. I had help from the company to set up the work visa because they had to send a letter to the consulate to get the visa accepted. you may be able to do a phone interview, email correspondence, or possibly some form of instant messaging interview-I doubt the latter would be true but the firm did use instant messaging a lot during work and it may be easier for them to type in English than to speak in English

I did a three month internship in Hangzhou, China near Shanghai. I lived in an international dorm at one of the local universities. The only trouble I really had to deal with were bike thieves. There were a few international people in my office that had apartments in the city and didn’t have many problems as far as I know. I walked around at night by myself quite often actually.
