I was the “Assistant Landscape Architect” to “Principal Landscape Architect – Albert David” to design this FIVE STAR luxurious Hotel in Dallas, Texas. I was about 5 years into my LA career when our LA firm designed this Hotel. “The-Mansion-On-Turtle-Creek” even today is considered to be the #1 Hotel in The State of Texas.
The Restaurant was built from a Luxury Home once owned by Billionaire H.L. Hunt. A Hotel Tower was added and connected to the Restaurant. For this project, the Developer gave us carte blanche with regards to the “Scope of Design Services” as well as the costs….we had no budget constraints – one of the very few projects during my LA career where I didn’t have “budget”.
We provided Preliminary Designs for the Hotel’s entry drive, pool area and outdoor patio areas. We provided FULL LA design services…..Irrigation Design, Site Lighting, Planting Design, all hardscape which included the Entry Drive, Seasonal Flowers, Concrete/Stucco Screen Walls, Swimming Pool & Jacuzzi & Pool Deck…with Pergola.
Designing under a very creative and seasoned Landscape Architect like Al David was a fantastic learning experience for me!
Al & our wives were invited to the Grand Opening of the Hotel’s Restaurant (and the topping off ceremony for the Hotel Tower), Really interesting party as all of the Dallas Social Society was in attendance…though, the only person I recognized was Stanley Marcus of “Neiman-Marcus” Stores.
