This is a photograph of a “Russian Bear” bomber aircraft circling my aircraft carrier….The USS FRANKLIN D. ROOSEVELT (CVA-42) with a U.S. F-4 Fighter Jet escort. I spent the better part of my 4 years in the U.S. Navy on board the Roosevelt as the Air Wing Commanding Officers’ Administrative Assistant (along with the 15 other Naval Officers on Staff, who were all Navy Pilots. Made (2) 6 month cruises to the Mediterranean Sea and (1) that was 9 months long. Visited Spain, France, Monaco, Italy, Greece and France. I believe that visiting the many cities of Southern Europe (where so much of Landscape Architecture has its’ roots) was a big influence on my deciding to study Landscape Architecture @ Texas A&M University. The plazas, water features, streetscapes, plant materials, architecture, Italian villas, construction materials. I never even heard of “Landscape Architecture” until after I was honorable discharged from the U.S. Navy in March of 1974.
