Green Roofs for Healthy Cities Brings Grey To Green Conference to Boston

The 2023 Boston Grey to Green Conference, taking place on April 23-24, aims to explore the latest developments in green infrastructure science, economic valuation, asset management, public policy, technologies, and best practices in design, installation, and maintenance. The conference seeks to inform the current policy debate and advocate for a rapid and significant increase in green infrastructure investment, a growing trend worldwide.

Tailored content will be provided for designers, contractors, installers, maintenance professionals, and policymakers, with a focus on practical information about the implementation and maintenance of green infrastructure systems. The event will span two days, offering training, tours, technical presentations, panel discussions, and a central trade show.

The Boston Grey to Green Conference is pending approval for 7 Continuing Education Units (CEUs) from professional organizations such as AIA, ASLA, IIBEC, and USGBC, and is approved for 7 Green Roof Professional (GRP) Credits.

April 23 will feature training and tours, including the new certification “Green Roof Installation & Maintenance Professional Training” (GRIMP) session at the Recover Green Roof Facility in Somerville, MA, with an admission fee of $495 USD, limited to six attendees on a first-come-first-served basis. There will be a tour of the green roof on CALA (Powderhouse). Powderhouse consists of 48 residences, 22,000 square feet of dynamic commercial space and over an acre of public and green space. There will also be a tour of the Harvard Science and Engineering Complex, a 535,000 square feet structure that will accommodate teaching and research laboratories, classroom space, faculty and staff offices, and a host of amenity spaces. 

April 24 will feature a full-day plenary-style conference and attached trade show, with a venue at the Fort Point Room in Boston, MA, and admission fees of $125 USD for GRHC members and $150 USD for non-members.

The conference will feature keynote speaker Kate England, Director of Green Infrastructure at the City of Boston. It will also feature other renowned speakers, including Mikyoung Kim, FASLA, Founder & Design Director at Mikyoung Kim Design, and Erik Hegre, AIA, Office Director at BEHNISCH ARCHITEKTEN.
