Right now, I have something very similar called out in the plan, actually. I think it will look nice for the type of project it is. Thanks for sharing the picture so I can get a better idea of what it will look like!

I didn’t mean to ignore your post and it was definitely a great help! Thanks for your detailed responses…I really appreciate the sharing of knowledge. I’ve just been so incredibly busy that I meant to respond and never got back to it. Life is a tad crazy right now.
I am definitely interested in trying the deep edge, but I just don’t know how the…[Read more] -

From the professional magazines I read that my landscape design/build/maintenance company receives, things are picking up on the maintenance side.
People are choosing to maintain the properties that they have and the people who do have their own properties are the most secure at this stage. It makes sense that they would protect their interests…[Read more]

I see what you’re saying Andrew. I’m not saying any of what you love about the old normal will disappear completely. I just think it’s time for the developed world to look back, realistically assess what we’ve done for the past several decades and refine it:
-It should be obvious that our infrastructure needs repair. No one wants bridges crumbling…[Read more] -

Welcome to the Lenovo club!
I can also recommend some software… RedStick CAD (one of the better CAD apps for Android) and Evernote (sync’s notes between pc, mac, ipad, iphone, android, blackberry devices) with the Skitch plugin (draw freehand in Evernote)
Enjoy! -

Well I took the leap and got a Lenovo Thinkpad. The stylus is great and more pointed like a pen, not a rounded finger-shaped stylus that most tech stores have available. I was looking for less screen delay for drawing and thats exactly what this tablet provides. Tried iPad, Samsung Galaxy, Asus Transformer and a couple others with the same…[Read more]

Again another on-target statement that makes reconsider. The “old normal” was a zenith of a time for some of the greatest, most revered and praised accomplishments of our country. Architects, landscape architects and artists did some amazing things during that time that are cherished places and spaces throughout our country. Timberline Lodge comes…[Read more]

So, what is it that we hated about the “old normal” that makes people want to accept this “new normal”?
At some point it should become clear that the “old normal” was the best thing on the planet and in the history of the world.

Roland:
Thank you for your lighthearted but well-intentioned reply. I regret that I sunk into a snarky and cynical mindset in my posting and commentary here and probably discouraged or insulted some people in doing so, for that my regrets.
I see things the exact same way you. We will get through this “new normal”
Last time we had anything a…[Read more] -

Why can’t we have a Rocky and Bullwinkle recession instead?
This can’t last forever, though. We still have aging infrastructure, more people wanting rental units, cities in need of better pedestrian and bike facilities and plenty of other countries that are developing. We may be faced with a new norm, but not the end of the world. We just have to…[Read more] -

It is and was clear. I’m suggesting that if you are trying to put forth standards to meet for a new professional license, those standards should be things that are valued by those whom are in the best position to need landscape architecture type services. In other words, don’t set standards that are more idealistic and appealing to public image…[Read more]

Get the best Google or Bing (or Apple?) maps aerial view of a forest canopy you can find, open it in Photoshop, and clone stamp it into a simple plan view tree symbol. In lieu of a pilfered forest canopy swatch, you could use a picture of random foliage or something else green(?) and mottled, then scale the texture appropriately. It will take a…[Read more]

Ok, I can see what you are saying, but I guess that there is a misunderstanding.
Technically, in European English legal speak”regulation” of a profession is simply the set of rules and laws that govern attaining a certain qualification, acquiring some experience in a structured environment and then being able to practice with legal guarantees ie:…[Read more] -

I sat in a hearing room as part of the civil engineer’s staff with a group of developers and attorneys prior to a hearing where no one was aware that I was an LA. One attorney suggested that an LA should be brought in on the project. That set off a negative clamoring by the developers who did not want “someone turning the project into a “bunny…[Read more]

Registration, in my opinion, should be designed to meet a set of criteria that is valued in the market place so that those looking for people who are identified to meet such a standard can be confident that a registered (licensed, certified, or whatever you want to call it) LA meets that standard.
If there is to be a new standard to be made, it…[Read more] - Load More
