You just answered your own question. Show these emerging professionals how to “demonstrate problem solving skills, creativity, etc.” .
This thread can be like a site inventory in a landscape design process. Is it time to do the analysis stage and combine it with your project goal “create a better connection to ASLA” and build out an ideal s…[Read more] -

Spoken like an experienced person.
It seems like there may be a format by which mentoring could be rewarded. I know if you speak at a conference, you get CEUs. Any other suggestions? -

There is a lot here, Russ. Really tell us your needs succinctly. In terms of problem solving skills, creativity, etc., these are skills that you have to prove you have. Even if you are an old fart like me, you are still demonstrating to others that they should have a level of trust in your skills.

Amanda, i have been working for myself for over 35 years and i have probably learned most things the hard way. i read your story a few times trying to understand what you are saying rather than what you are asking. Seth and Andrew have given you some practical advice, i can give you practical advice but i think it might be more beneficial to give…[Read more]

Hourly is a nice way to go, but if you are doing residential in a competitive market, it is much harder to sell. The trick to doing contract price design is to define what you will do in a quantitative manner including how many meetings, how many revisions, … and what the hourly rate is for anything and everything beyond that.
I have…[Read more] -

I have spent a little more time looking over the material these guys put out. There sections E and C material are pretty bad. I also looked at their section B material (which is mainly Q&A) and the questions/answers seem rather suspect. I’m not going to say they are wrong, but the questions themselves are rather oddly “framed”. They often do not…[Read more]

Any conclusions? Findings?
In my experience Revit is stills mostly 2D data entry with 3D information (you don’t build 3D models as in Rhino, Microstation, FormZ, sketchUp, etc); Civil 3D is lines with data associated with it and is terrible at terrain modeling (anything none-rectilinear is low quality and geometrically primitive); Land F/X is f…[Read more] - Load More
