Leslie B Wagle replied to the topic cremetorial places in the forum PLACES & SPACES 14 years, 4 months ago
I’m not sure we have “crematorial grounds” other than in-grade placement of plaques for the deceased (some areas of those also show up in the gardens). Do you mean the crematorium site itself? I think that is usually remote from the burial or memorial walls -and by the way the columbaria (better plural spelling) can be in secular cemeteries as…[Read more]

Check HERE for examples of professionally done renderings. When you click on a post, you’ll get a series of images as well as a short blurb on the software used.
I agree wholeheartedly with ida & April here, go with what has the deepest user base. Take a look at the other forums on cgarchitect or dig around youtube for a while and you’ll get an…[Read more] -

My 2 cents as a second year BLA…
Our program is teaching Rhino 3D, along with the Rhino Terrain plug in, which is to be integrated into the next release. Other than SketchUp, this has been my first foray into ‘real’ 3D. As Ida said above, the learning curve is a bitch – I hear 3dsMax is even worse.
BUT – the point I am getting to is: part of t…[Read more] -

We are people, not machines. We are all different despite the fact that we all like to pretend that all people are the same. What is the school of hard knocks to one is pure torture to another. What is trying your best to one, is inadequate to another. There is no way to properly advise Thomas because we neither know whether the boss is a hard…[Read more]

Not to sound like a hard @ss, but you need to put your big boy pants on. This is the business. Sink or swim. I went through something similar with a small firm I worked for. The only way I eliminated mistakes was by being meticulous to the point of insanity. You MUST write everything down that your boss tells you to do. You MUST go out of yo…[Read more]

Thomas, here is the deal. Start looking for a new job NOW. Some people are just jerks and there is nothing you can do about it. Do you best to stay calm while your working there, but start looking for another job. Some people just yell and rant and do not know how to be profesional. If you were that bad, you would have been fired. The guy…[Read more]

Question: when you are given a task by your boss, do you respond “OK” and walk away to begin said task? The reason I ask is – you mentioned communication problems. I’ll give you my two cents from my 25 years of non-landscape architecture work experience, a lot of that working for demanding attorneys….
Have you tried responding to your a…[Read more] -

Wow there is a lot of negative feelings toward the new layout….
Personally I like the new layout and for those who are having trouble finding the forum, there is a tab at the top (sixth one from the left) labeled forum and it will take you to the main forum directory. Additionally, through that tab I have found an option to view the recent F…[Read more] -

I would suggest that you don’t get sucked in to getting more of the same certifications that many other landscape architecture job candidates get.
It looks like you are near the coast in Maine. Your best bet for opportunities while staying put is with high end residential I would suspect. The niche expertise that I suggest that pursue is in…[Read more] -

I have tried, but I don’t like it either. It took me three times visiting to figure out where the forum was. I think that is one one of the best parts of the site. It has really been minimized, to the site’s detriment IMHO.

I am certified by my State DOT as a job site inspector and by the American Concrete Institute as a Concrete Field Tester. Not really typical landscape architecture credentials, I know, but when work was really slow a year and a half ago, these creds kept me busy in the field for several days. And as luck(?) would have it, there happened to be a…[Read more]

The London protest started just outside St. Paul’s Cathedral and it closed for a while losing £20k a day income. I think the scale of the income shocked a lot of people as did one journalist going inside for the first time, when it opened again after health and safety fears were addressed, to see priests on the tills in the shop taking the c…[Read more]
