I haven’t seen that one, but I haven’t been keeping up with that show. I’ll have to find a way to watch the last several halloween episodes.

ha, I know that episode – good social commentary..How about the one with Obama and McCain, where they turn into mob-types, once they have taken the whitehouse, and make off with the loot..

This information is elusive even in forest hydrology text books. I’ve looked for it myself without much luck. Like everyone else has said there are so many variables that influence evapotranspiration that its difficult to even get to a measurable range.
If there are any good places to look it would be in:
USFS publications treesearch, Journal o…[Read more] -

Yes, it would have to be localized as well as species specific. The different humidity levels between much of CA and much of FL would mean data from one site would be way off in the other. And then there’s wind to consider.

I’ve only ever seen a publication like this for California, which you would calculate for the old LEED rating system.

This would be an amazing piece of information to have… I hope this data set would be able to specify the age/maturity/size of the tree as well.

Lately, I’ve been thinking a lot about one of the Simpsons Halloween episodes, where two hideous space aliens disguise themselves as the main presidential candidates during an election (this was aired when Bill Clinton was running against Bob Dole). Eventually, the masks were torn off, and everyone was horrified to see that both candidates were…[Read more]

Andrew that is kind of what I am saying. People keep saying Obama is this crazy liberal stifling business but even when he could have completely run over the opposition he didn’t. This is irritating to liberals that voted him in! Democrats won huge in 2010 and there was an expectation they would do BIG things. Instead, we voted in a moderate…[Read more]

“Politicians are like diapers. They both need changing regularly and for the same reason.’ -Mark Twain.
My guess is that these quotes will still ring true for the next hundred or so years too. -

are you asking me to defend Obama? I am not one of those. Please add to his infractions the lack of use of recess apointments – he had two years before the repubs started holding the intersession sessions to block recess apointments. Also add the use of signing statements, the increased use of drones in afghanastan, the expansion of our wars to…[Read more]

… until January there were 55 dem senators with two independents who were liberal vs. 41 senators (two from Maine often voted with dems). the house had 256 dems and 178 reps … there is no way that he was out maneuvered by the Pepublicans because they had zero power. Things could pass without bipartisan support and nothing could fail without…[Read more]

Todd, I have log ago given up on being able to spell Olmsted…with any regularity..and I mean democratic with a small d.

I didn’t say anybody should hold those views – just said it seemed more compatible..big difference!!! And Olmstead was an egalitarian..One of the driving principles of his philosophy was bringing nature to everybody, what has previously only been seen on the estates of the rich..
Seems pretty democratic to me!
I lean left! Full disclosure..If you…[Read more] -

Miles Barnard replied to the topic What Graduate Degree would you recommend as the best complement to an Undergrad in Landscape Architecture? Pros and Cons? in the forum GENERAL DISCUSSION 14 years, 9 months ago
If I were hiring someone right now (settle down everyone, I’m not) I wouldn’t really care about their post grad degrees is any. I care about their work experience, graphic abilities and personality. I think grad school is for people that want to teach or don’t know what they want to do. Was that too harsh?

I agree Jordan. I consider myself a moderate (registered Independent) which was why I was really confused by anyone saying no cuts or no increases. Clearly we have bills to pay…haha. We have our own business and live in Idaho. Our state is fighting any tax increases but continues to hack at education spending…we were already 49th in spending…[Read more]
