I would recommend checking out Parc Clichy-Batignolles just next to the Porte de Clichy metro stop. It is still under construction… However the majority is currently accessible and I’ve heard it has been very well used since spring started.
I’ve got a few misgivings about the skate park, but then there’s just no pleasing us skaters sometime…[Read more]

  • Why don’t you ask them?
    Try this:
“I’d really like this position and want to be well prepared for the technical exam. Can you recommend any areas that I should concentrate on? Is it technical in a software sense or in a construction/standards sense?”
Frankly, I don’t understand how you left the interview not knowing what the subject of the…[Read more]

Paris has every kind of park imaginable. Some suggestions and favorites include:
Parc Citroen, Parc Bercy, Jardin Atlantique (behind the Montparnasse Train station) are all on the modern side of LA.

Jardin Albert Kahn is a also great spot, it has both traditional and contemporary japanese gardens.

    good luck and have fun!

In London I took the sight-seeing double decker bus trip the evening of my arrival. Tired due to travelling, long day, etc. so the bus was a great way to see the lay of the city and note places I wanted to come back to for further exploration. The walk through Green Park on the way to Buckingham was pretty cool. As a major plant weenie it was…[Read more]

  • Thanks for the advice!
Luckily for me, my nephews have just reached the tot lot age, and I get out there and play with them as much as possible!

  • Know you fall zone heights for the different play surfaces, resilient, sand, chips, etc. Know the different types play and be familiar with the universal accessible play requirements (ADA).

I work for the city of los angeles department of recreation and parks so i deal with playgrounds alot.

  • This position is actually based in california.
Based just off of the 6 step hiring process, I can see how this might be an intense position.
My last position as a sales and marketing associate for a landscape contractor really helped me develop more leadership skills and confidence. Playground design and children’s landscapes has been my passion…[Read more]

CPSI was actually mentioned in the job listing. I am definitely going to look into that website.
If I had known this existed and only took a few days to accomplish, I would have had it done already!

  • thanks  – just what I was looking for.

  • VERY interesting topic !  (And a hot one, apparently, too).

I definitely agree with your sentiments BZ. I too am a (relatively) young LA, working in the south, and have long experienced discrimination, both outside the office in the field and in meetings, but also inside the office unfortunately. I have worked in my office for 11 years now, a…[Read more]

  • Here are a few pointers that worked for me. I passed it the 1st try in December (and I was nervous!!)

    1) Do as MANY vignettes as you can. Even if you get frustrated, remember that if you do one wrong, you’ve just learned something! You add that to your bank of knowledge, and now you’re one step farther than you were before.

    2) Keep doing v…[Read more]

  • With my experience with the exam time management was the biggest help.  I started out doing a single problem two or three nights after work.  Then the next week I would set aside two hours and do two problems in one sitting.  I did this until I was able to set aside 4 hours on the weekend and go through 4 vignettes just like the real ex…[Read more]

  • That is great advise – this is going to save ALOT of time.  I have been worried about the tme factor on these.
    Thanks.

  • Go and observe and even play in as many as possible. Ask kids what they like about each one and what they don’t. So much gets installed and never used, but you see the same thing everywhere. While there are standards to follow, innovation will always get you farther.

Are these guys out on Long Island, a place that designs and builds  wooden play structures? That was a really fast paced job, I interviewed for years ago – the designer needed to be a real director, it was a very intense position – felt I didn’t get it because they needed someone who would be at the center of a  very dynamic process, so maybe th…[Read more]

  • TEMPLATES…..lay down a sheet of trace over your vignette. Take a sheet of stiff vellum and trace the design components. This includes generic parking lot blocks that you need to create. Use these “puzzle pieces” to try out different arrangements. When you have your final design, tape them to the trace and then move the trace under your vignette…[Read more]

  • Curved parking.  Seems to work, but test it out.
Run it with “a-p” at the command line.

  • I too recall seeing something like this years ago in another program I think was more civil based, but not in autocad. I generally draw a few lines at the measurement I want perpendicular to the curve, do a UCS align to the last space and mirror. Rinse…repeat. Because you are mirroring more spaces each time, you get exponentially faster. Faster…[Read more]
