uh, .. yeah.. that’s a pretty far out there speculation. I seriously hope that LARE graders have better things to do than sit on this message board stalking people who might be bad-mouthing CLARB and the LARE, making notes of their names, and then docking them points while grading one of their vignettes. LOL.

The graders can read all they like, can hang posters of you on their dart boards, but they will have no idea on whose test they are grading so it really won’t matter.
Everyone wants respect for the profession, but then they get bent out of shape when tough standards are applied that they don’t meet right away. Everyone wants the standard to be…[Read more]

Good! Take notes! I have spoken with many national board test writers….architecture, engineering, nursing, optometry, BAR……and they are all surprised that CLARB has gotten away with a 37% passing rate for so long. Especially when they charge almost $400 bucks a pop.
I really do hope CLARB is reading this forum. We’re on to you and I claim…[Read more]

HI Michelle,
I’m in the same boat as you….live in Texas, passed the first 3 m/c, now struggling to get through C and E. I took C for the first time in June and failed it. I thought surely i must have made a bazillion errors, really screwed it up. But when i did the redline review i was shocked to discover that i only made really 5 distinct…[Read more] -

Consider trying to partner with someone who is already licensed in WA. If it is for a large project, it could be well worth it, and give you more clout. Even the big boys do partnerships for major projects and competitions. Hey, if you want to pursue work in Nevada, I’d be up for exploring a partnership agreement! Not that there’s a lot of work in…[Read more]

I can apply for reciprocity only after I meet the state’s requirements (see a,b and c). Since I just earned my license this year, any period of experience starts now…

That would be unethical at best and probably illegal. It would be blatant discrimination, tough to prove though.

Maybe the question should be. Are vertical gardens more sustainable?

I do like Ivy on a stucco or brick wall. Are they any worse or better than replanting urban street trees every 5 years?

I mean that I would almost guarantee that there are people from CLARB / LARE reading these posts… and maybe taking notes.

Great tips, thanks everybody for your input.
Tanya,
It funny you mention the Townhouse vignette. I actually practiced on that one the past 2 days. I couldn’t finish one of the two in ONE HOUR the first day. !!! The second day I got it done 20 minutes faster. Still too slow, though. And I thought it would be a breeze! ugh.Scott,
I took Ray…[Read more] -

A – The format changes a little per test, general problems that I have heard about at reviews.
1. Small scale design with drive through, parking area, pass-by lanes, etc. Remember to avoid existing vegetation, driveways far enough apart, are setbacks followed, pedestrian circulation.
2. Two design Options on same piece. (quick and very unique from…[Read more] -

Thomas,
What do mean, “I know well enough not to offend someone who is going to be grading my test.”

A planted swale at 1% will not drain. If the vignette asks for 2%, why would 1% be acceptable?

I haven’t taken the LARE yet but I know well enough not to offend someone who is going to be grading my test.
The only issue I see with the test is that it is not held more often, like quarterly. Then again, I hope to pass it on the first shot… crossing fingers. I think the testing frequency and costs are designed to keep the riffraff out of…[Read more]
