Tosh K replied to the topic Illustrator vs. Photoshop for Rendering Plans in the forum TECHNOLOGY 15 years, 5 months ago
I always preferred CAD base, Illustrator to check/adjust line weights and broad area rendering (using masking) => photoshop for finer raster touch up/importing scanned hand images => Illustrator to keep crisp lines for final PDF => InDesign for layout/labeling. This allows for edits in a consistent way (always hated edits in PS) and manages file…[Read more]

Can do CAD imports, pdf as an image I think. It’s a simple program that’s good for small areas and quick mock ups, but is lacking in features (it is a sketching software after all)

You can also “select by colo.r” as long as each layer is a different color, it makes it easier to separate the layers

Great discussion. I feel the most comfortable rendering my plans in Photoshop, and for the most part labeling as well, however when plans get large and labeling extensive, photoshop is getting bogged down.
I would like an opinion on Illustrator for leaders and labels, is it worthwhile to pursue?

The first thing that should be obvious before we get caught up in the minutia of the test is that your overall mindset has to be on safety and minimizing conflicts – slip ups in that will cause you to fail (drop offs on the wrong side of the driveway or car, putting main drives between the parking and he building, unnecessary pedestrian…[Read more]

They have had exhibits at the National Building Museum in Washington, DC, as well as at MoMa in NYC. Unfortunately, there is nothing permanent at either museum. I would love to see more permanent exhibits at the NBM, but much of the historic archietctureal obejects (models, plans and the like) are spread out among various museums such as MoMa.

That would be excellent! I’d also like to see Land Archs work spaces recreated with historic tools and drawings. It would be an interesting display to see desks from the mid-evil period, Renaissance, 1800’s, early 1900’s, 20’s, 40’s, 60’s, 80’s and today…
There are all kinds of things you could do with an L.A. museum… fun to think about…

If you are having difficulties I would strongly recommend Ray Freeman’s Review Course, if it is still available. I took it in the Bay area around 2006. I was lucky enough to live locally, but there were attendees from across the country. I invested money in the review before even taking the test.
The course spent an entire weekend on Section C,…[Read more] -

Purdue Landscape Architects Lounge 15 years, 5 months agoJust an FYI to all – You may want to start re-thinking the way your base material is laid down for any permeable pavement systems that you are installing. I have been involved in helping my company create a new limestone/aggregate product line that addresses permeable pavement systems. The product is designed to maximize the porosity of the base…[Read more]

I’m right there with you. I’m pretty sure no who has taken the exams can pass on any specific information at all about the test or format.
I’m having trouble getting practice vignette C-2 done in time too – I did cut my time by about 25 minutes today by drawing the townhouses as a block rather than the individual units, getting my layout done,…[Read more]

The trick to it is to keep it simple. No one is grading you on creativity or artistry, only that you are technically correct. Concentrate on the information that they supply to you. It is as much about following directions as anything else.

Jason T. Radice replied to the topic Vertical gardens are truly sustainable, or not ? in the forum SUSTAINABILITY & DESIGN 15 years, 5 months ago
Will it grow without intensive and artificial life support such as fertilization or irrigation?
The only sustainable vertical garden I know of is Ivy, Virginia Creeper or Bougainvillea growing from the ground up. The stuff is essentially weeds, so it is very tough. It can also destroy buildings over time, especially masonry.
