LA Downunder 15 years, 7 months agoCanberra is nice, a good place to live and the UC is a good school too. Canberra also has an awesome setting, really doesn’t have a city feel to it not many tall buildings, lots of trees and natural landscapes all around. Its close to Sydney too and a short flight away from Melbourne. In terms of the uni courses in aus, I know quite a few people…[Read more]

LA Downunder 15 years, 7 months agoHey guys and gals,
I’m currently considering moving to Oz to get my MLA and was hoping to get some feedback from current practitioners in Australia about the following masters programs: University of Canberra, RMIT, University of Melbourne, University of New South Wales, and University of Adelaide. I believe the Univ. NSW masters program is not…[Read more] -

It is an assumption on your part that it has been improperly graded at this point. Perhaps it was, but perhaps it was not.
I don’t mean to pick on you, but you may need to think this through a little more, so I’ll play Devil’s advocate.
“For example, the stated grading criteria for the written portion of the exam said the candidate’s written…[Read more]

It seems like they should waive the fee if you are correct that it was scored incorrectly and require payment of the fee if it was scored correctly – that would fit better with the way our legal system is set up.

Sadly the blight can be reasonably traced to a shipment of Japanese Chestnuts to a nursery in the Rochester area. Some went to the NY Botanic Garden (among other places). It was the zoo’s Chief Forester (as the grounds manager was then titled) that first noticed die back of the zoo’s American chestnuts and sent samples to Washington for…[Read more]

For foliage, get flocking from a model train store. It comes in all different colors of greens, crumbled or sheets if I remember correctly. Using crumbled with several colors on one tree really gives some depth. Don’t use hot glue, it will melt the flocking. If I remember right, we just kind of dipped the wire trees in the flocking and it…[Read more]

Cool, Rob, would love to see those pix, I didn’t know it was discovered at the good old BRONX ZOO, right down from my dad’s house!..
We can’t imagine what america looked like, when covered with the old growth forests..there’s a cool patch of 300 year old maples in Nova Scotia, preserved, but it is in a dip in the island, in the middle, so the…[Read more] -

Middle East Landscape 15 years, 7 months agodont overlook dubai. ‘acceptance’ to the profession is better there compared to AD. market may be down a bit, but its still worth checking. commuting from AD is not bad, just around 90 mins. better still, stay there, its cheaper and more metropolitan.

Well I had the redline review for LARE section C this weekend so I thought I’d post an update and answer my own question. Is the redline review really worth it? I have to say emphatically yes, purely for the ability to read through the redline comments and make sure the test was graded fairly.
I found 2 redline comments which, according to the…[Read more]

Trace One,
While this is not a literary connection (perhaps more a literal connection), when I worked at the Bronx Zoo, I did some research in the archives into the initial discovery of chestnut blight which occurred at the zoo. The photographs of the century old chestnut trees on the property astounded me! No oak of the Northeastern forests could…[Read more] -

I saw something done with cut pieces of colored acetates, that I thought was really beautiful..
I think the idea is to choose an idiom, a language, for your model, and stick to it in as unified a way as one can..

good idea, twisted wire, but I love the yarrow – didn’t think it looked like yarrow! Maybe depends on scale..20 scale is good for yarrow..(Have to defend it – really loved the model-making..When does one ever get to do that in ‘real life.’…)

Thank you for the idea here, I have never seen trees like this before. Last year there were a couple of students that used wire for trees but they were abstract lollipop trees. Now did you just leave them looking like deciduous winter trees or did you use some type of material that gave impression of foliage on the branches?

Twisted narrow gauge wire trees are the best. You can dip them in foam flocking from a model train store. They have a beautiful texture and you can make black, silver, copper, and bronze. We were discouraged from using dried plants as they tend to still look like the plant that they were and not a tree.
To twist the wire, you take 10+ fairly long…[Read more] -

dried lichens and dried yarrow are great..available at any crafts store.. Little cubes of sponges sprayed green and stuck on matchsticks.. You can do anything..architects really get creative with the plant department..
