(Full Disclosure: I had a candidate MAGNET on my vehicle during the last presidential election) I agree with most others that politics and bumper stickers need to stay out of the work enviroment. BUT the problem is not with the political leanings or beliefs of others. I welcome conversation with others with a different opinion.
In my opinion, the…[Read more]

I have been working as a professional for 6 years. So I guess that puts me in the “savvy” tier. In my six years I have seen small changes in the form of deliverables. The same plans and details go out but I have seen additions to the design set as necessary. Items such as models in sketchup, vast graphic improvement in computer renderings and…[Read more]

I agree, same with driving luxury cars, this contractor I freelanced for had a Mercedes, but he drives his toyota to meet with clients so they don’t think he’s ripping them off.

I saw this modified gabion wall detail at the national zoo that might be interesting for this application.
this part was about 30″ high I would say, and only about 8″ thick. The same detail was used elsewhere though to retain roughly 15′.

On one hand it would be good to be able to have sensible conversations about topics that truly do affect our daily lives, our collective future, and the profession’s ability to thrive, but on the other hand, it seems that very few people are interested in changing their viewpoints; or even engaging (listening to the other side) in…[Read more]

Yes, we mostly have to learn to keep our politics to ourselves, Tanya, but I do agree with your interest in political expression..It is so difficult to talk politics in the US these days (a point I was trying to make in an earlier post) that we opt just not to do it..I think that is to our detriment – we need to learn to be able to talk politics,…[Read more]

They should have made those in Baltimore out of Corten..would have looked sooooo much better (and more natural). Plus, you don’t have to paint them – ever. They used Corten @ the Getty in LA with nicely hidden welds. Stunning.

UC Berkeley Extension 15 years, 9 months agoHello, I am looking to team up with a Landscape Contractor to bid on new projects for small residential gardens in San Francisco. I also need a contractor who can advise/bid on a residential project where there is a significant drainage problem that needs to be solved through plantings and some minor engineering such as a swale or terracing. This…[Read more]

I like the pile idea. I have only set walls on top of the retainined area. It would be sweet to pull that out of the ground (in the right style and context of course).

I have seen these and specified them a couple times. NDS has a product that is like the Netlon ATS, but uses a honeycomb pattern that can be completely buried under turf, gravel, decomposed granite, mulch, etc. I have seen it under turf and mulch and it works great. They have a product that is fire engine rated so the fire companies are happy with…[Read more]

I am still am on AC 2006, but I have been using a block for my planting schedules for a long time. I have a legend line block that is full of attributes so when I edit my attribute (DDATTE) I have a window pop up with Botanical Name, Common Name, Size, Qty, Water Use, Plant Factor, and Comments. (I am in California, so the new MWELO requirements…[Read more]

I’m newbie here and generally self employed. Very good discussion on most points. I have been told upon #’s of occasion that driving the old worn vehicle is as much a statement/negative as the bumper stickers. It’s all image making. Are you aware of, are you invested in, and can you maintane the image you are presenting?

When the results of the 2008 presidential election came in, I wrote “We Won!!!” in soap on the back window of my pickup. It was the first time I felt jubilant and celebratory about ANYTHING in many months. The owner of my company saw it and told me to wash it off. “Don’t rub it in. I don’t rub it in.” he said. I didn’t think that was fair as it…[Read more]
