Fellow Landscape Architects, Designers and Friends:
This is our month – a time to celebrate our profession and also a time to promote greater awareness of landscape architecture to all. Our chapter will kick off our celebration tomorrow evening with a Spring Party at the Center for Architecture. We are very excited to have ASLA President, Richard Zweifel, FASLA join us for this celebration! Our design awards will be on exhibit at the Center for Architecture through April 30.
Our month continues with five additional events that revolve around the topic of community engagement. We have a panel discussion on Extreme Heat, co-hosted with the AIA Design for Risk and Reconstruction Committee, a panel on Social Media for Landscape Architects, a Storm Resilient Landscapes workshop, an Urban Sketchers Sketch Walk, and a panel on Creative Placemaking. Check out all of these events at: http://aslany.org/events/category/landscape-architecture-month/.
This month, National Landscape Architecture Month becomes World Landscape Architecture Month (WLAM), as we connect the world through designed spaces. WLAM celebrates the profession and introduces it to the next generation of landscape architects across the globe.
World Landscape Architecture Month will use social media to connect each ASLA chapter with our sister organization, Italy to collaborate, share ideas, and reach new audiences with social media. We ask that you download this wallet sized card with “Design By A Landscape Architect” on it to take pictures of it at designed spaces to share on social media. Post your photos on your favorite social media platform along with #WLAM2015 and #ASLA-NY to share globally. ASLA will showcase all of these efforts to create a national story about connecting students across the world collaborating ideas that promotes the landscape architecture profession. If you are not on social media, send your photos to: email@example.com
As part of WLAM celebration Rutgers University Department of Landscape Architecture,Urban Sketchers, and the NY and NJ Chapters of the ASLA launched “SKETCH OUT/LOUD” (SKO/L), a social media collaboration that shares on location sketches of landscapes from around the world. It’s very easy to participate. Add the hashtag #skol2015 to your FB, Twitter or Instagram uploads when you sketch a landscape (photos and videos are also ok). If you want to know more, visit the Sketch Out/Loud Blog.
There is a lot going on this month and we hope to see you at our events and participating in public awareness campaigns online. Thank you all and enjoy Landscape Architecture Month!
