World Landscape Architecture Month (WLAM) in April 2015 #WLAM2015
WASHINGTON and BRUSSELS [ 2015] – The American Society of Landscape Architects (ASLA), in collaboration with the International Federation of Landscape Architects (IFLA), plans to unveil World Landscape Architecture Month (WLAM) in April 2015. Formerly National Landscape Architecture Month, WLAM participants will celebrate landscape architecture by engaging their communities while connecting ASLA’s chapters to different member organizations of IFLA to spread the profession across the globe.
“We’re excited to partner with organizations around the world to raise awareness of the profession,” said Nancy Somerville, Hon. ASLA, executive vice president and CEO of ASLA. “We look forward to joining the celebration and helping to develop the next generation of landscape architects.”
ASLA encourages chapters, firms, and members to reach out to local schools to introduce the profession to students. During WLAM, ASLA chapters will also connect with IFLA member organizations via Skype and social media to stage events. Student ASLA members from each chapter will form relationships with affiliated students from their chapters’ sister organizations to discuss landscape architecture throughout 2015.
“At a time when the globe faces major challenges caused by industrialization, urbanization, climate changes and the depletion of natural resources, WLAM shines a light on our progressive profession, “ said Prof. Kathryn Moore, IFLA President. “We are pleased that international collaboration such as this will illuminate the solutions Landscape Architecture offers.
Anyone can join the celebration by requesting a wallet-sized card that reads “Designed by a Landscape Architect” to feature in pictures at landscape-architect-designed spaces and share on social media. Anyone also can submit these pictures and view them alongside ASLA chapters’ and their sister organizations’ images on a global, sharable map.
To join the celebration, visit WLAM’s Facebook page or for more information please visit its webpage. And stay tuned from more information.
