Many students in the University of Wisconsin LA department would like to go to the ASLA conference in Phoenix this year but don’t have the funds to do so. Are there any LA-related (or other) orgs that we could apply for grants from to raise money to go to the conference? In the past, we’ve gotten money from our own Associated Students of Madison org, Wisconsin ASLA chapter, Daughters of Demeter, and also held a LAFormal that was a fundraiser. Suggestions? Thanks 🙂

Alumni and your university are your best bets – professionals have a hard enough time, but the well-networked student might get a dedicated alum or two to chip in; or just get a student ASLA award.

You might want to look at your university’s student organizations department, graduate school, and other on campus resources for funds available for student travel.. At FIU, we are given some money if we go to conferences and then present what we learned when we return.  Also, our state’s ASLA chapter gives us money each semester if we request it.  Those may be some options for you.  Good luck and hopefully see you in Phoenix.
