Q2 is out, and it kind of reflects what else has been happening in the AEC industry, things are looking a bit down. Most notably, inquiries and those looking to hire have decreased. This is a bit less scientific than the ABE from the AIA, as it uses a voluntary survey to obtain its metrics, so it is based on respondents providing information. It is also a bit more vague with a 10 point swing for the ‘stay the same’ category, which could be positive or negative, whereas the ‘slightly higher’ or ‘slightly lower’ category only has a 5 point range. It is also spun that the stays the same or slighly improved are combined on the chart to provide a more positive outlook (keep in mind, 5 points of the ‘stay the same’ could actualy be negative).

The number we all should be paying attention to is the percent planning to hire with only 7% saying they plan on bringing on either an experienced LA or an entry level one, with 77.7% saying they will not be hiring at all. How many plan to downsize?
