University of the Philippines Landscape Architecture Program Alumni 17 years, 3 months agoBeing a UP grad really is an advantage since it’s an accredited University, but I agree with Paulo that actual training should be part of the curriculum like what they’re doing here. Students from their freshmen years get to experience working on real projects and get paid for it as well. By the time they finish their Uni, they usually get hired…[Read more]

University of the Philippines Landscape Architecture Program Alumni 17 years, 4 months agoGood point on part-time work, Paolo. There indeed are programs in US Universities when students take a year off to work in a firm prior to their senior year. FYI, the summer internship was the best possible option, ever, at 2001. The program, in fact, is pioneering for the College; BS Arch followed suit only around 2005.
Good probably if the…[Read more]

University of the Philippines Landscape Architecture Program Alumni 17 years, 4 months agono doubt there, our LA program did contribute a lot, though it is still a small percentage of the knowledge we must have in order to become competitive in our field. nothing beats actual professional experience. don’t get me wrong, having a good foundation is essential in order for us to easily adapt to actual current practice in our country or…[Read more]

Habitat Restoration and Mitigation 17 years, 4 months agoSo interested in constructed wetlands as a ecological system and a landscape element. Any with experience care to share? Finally, any opinion as to its feasibility in arid-desert locations (MTE’s or more severe climes)?

University of the Philippines Landscape Architecture Program Alumni 17 years, 4 months agoI think this has to be put up, with UP in its Centennial Year now. The UP philosophy in education serves us well, based on how well we’re doing around the globe; our turn to pay forward and let the others know we were/are: ISKOLARCHS!

Graphics 17 years, 4 months agoResponse to comment by Brent Farrar, I have used turpentine and pastels on normal paper. you get a similar effect of watercolour, but the paper does not wrinkle, this was my solution to getting the watercolour feel without all the hassle.

Graphics 17 years, 4 months agoHey Brandon….thanks for the invite. I use Vectorworks to create landscape designs…..do you know where can I find more information on realistic coloring techniques to use on my Vectorworks drawings so it looks like I used real colored pencils. Are there any other ways to make the drawings look high end? Peace!

Middle East Landscape 17 years, 5 months agoI wanted so say thank you to Abdulkader for the recommendation of the the Illustrated Guide to the flower of Saudi Arabia. It is a great resource. I was hoping that someone might be able to share their experience with procuring plant material in Dubai. The Landscape Contractor that we are working with is procuring most of the plant material from…[Read more]

Graphics 17 years, 5 months agoSome answers to a some questions two pages back: I count L. Azeo Torre and William Kirby Lockard….hehe, and Reimon buyco….as inspirations. My weapon of choice for the draw? A Pilot Rollerball for fine lines, any felt tip pen (Pilot or Pentel) for medium weight lines, and any thick marker (Sharpie, inevitably)…all black. On tracing, or plain…[Read more]
