i would research xeriscape plants – there are a bunch of native drought tolerant grasses and sedge that could work – Festuca glauca, Muhlenbergia c. …Also some hardy vines like Wisteria or Honeysuckle or Grape – Sedum, Yucca and Agave of course…and you realize this as you mention succulents…Rosemary var., Erigeron, Gaura, Salvia varieties…[Read more]

I received my BSLA from Arizona State University in May ’05 and have been working for one of the largest engineering design firms for over 3 years now. Our office has one RLA, but our supervisor is a PE. The main advantage here is that I am learning…[Read more]

    Hi Bill,

Exactly, LandFx uses hatch patterns instead of trying to place the poly line around the shrubs, and calling out the emitters in the schedule. I think its much cleaner this way.

No it wont warn you of increased precip rates (we still have to use our brains as designers)…..

  • As APLD International’s Chapter Chair, I have questions for all APLD members (or potential members): What do you enjoy about being a member of a regional or state APLD chapter? What could be improved on? If you are not a chapter member, what would you want from a chapter membership?

Yeah, it looks like a great time saver. Although anything is faster then the way I do it, so I’m probably no the best person to judge. Are you asking if you should draw in the spaghetti and/or the poly? Too much detail is a waste IMO. The contractor won’t follow it anyway. The hatch patterns look fine. You’ve called out the emitter size for each…[Read more]

    Hello folks,

I have uploaded a sample drip plan that I designed using LandFx irrigation. (I’ve been using the software for 5 years now) I’d like to know what you think of the way LandFx handles drip irrigation. The page also explains how LandFx calcs the drip areas (its very cool.)

I just picked up a handful of Blick markers. Are they any good? I’ve used AD and Prismacolor, are these better, worse, or about the same?

  • By the way, for the January workshop 2009, if you know of someone who may need this loose and good hand skills, this may be a good time for them to join me, so please encourage them to take this opportunity for the life changing experience. Currently, I am offering $400 off the tuition to help out someone who may need this big discount to offset…[Read more]

I just recently filled the only LA position in my firm in a region where there aren’t many LA’s practicing locally. I’ve been asked to develop some marketing strategies to increase what I can bring in to the firm. Any thoughts as to how to develop the marketing side of what I can provide clients?

I recently relocated to Iowa from Arizona. I’m the only LA in my firm and the guys here seem to understand the want for the LA side of projects. The harder sell is to the clients, especially when I don’t get put in contact with them until a plan is needed to meet city requirements. Any suggestions as to convincing the Project Manager to bring me…[Read more]

  • Hi i am new to this group and i feel your pain!

  • I attended Mike Lin graphic workshop ( 1 week) two years ago, it was very good for me. The workshop help me in a lot of areas, of course after that workshop I did my homework, it is not a magic, you have to practice in order to improve your graphic skills. At work I do a lot of photoshop renderings and after I took the workshop, I see a lot…[Read more]
