jenny janisParticipantFrom your post, it seems like you are ready to draw the line of dignity. Clearly your mental health is being affected and therefore you should seek other options which will help you feel better about your day. I would try to ask them for a timeframe when you can expect your salary to return to its original level, and start to hunt for other employment opportunities in your area. Nothing is worse than having a miserable job. Landscape Architects and Architects in general put up with a lot of b.s. in the workplace…long hours, low pay only to see pieces of our ideas become reality. We don’t need the extra torture and more of us should stand up for being treated properly. What you do completely depends on how flexible you are and what your resources are around you.

jenny janisParticipantThis product looks good….the fibers seem to have the same form as the Enkamat which has a structure that seems like it’ll hold onto soil while allowing plants to grow through. Thanks!

jenny janisParticipantThanks! Looks promising. Have you or anyone else used coir mats (coconut fiber) for the same situation as temporary erosion control which will biodegrade?

jenny janisParticipantHi Keven,
I’m looking into porous pavers for a small urban park. Can you point me to a few good examples you know of?
Thanks,

jenny janisParticipantI believe there have been studies on the value of real estate next to parks. They found that real estate values increased if they were along the park, but the homes behind them, away from the park edge, did not see an increase in value. I don’t remember who did the study but perhaps if you search for “real estate value along park space”, you will find it.
There have also been some studies on the amount of pollution absorbed by trees. This was a study done in China and again I don’t recall the scientist names or affiliation.

jenny janisParticipantit’s hard to say since no one ever really tells you these things and i haven’t asked either….but, that said, i think one of the things that helped me was a project I did specifically for my portfolio. I am a MLA1 student, so I came in without any background in design. However, I put together a project that linked a quilt i made with a broader conceptual idea of organization of city space. i think that kind of conceptual thinking is good to highlight.
