Hey guys! Here is a link to some presentations from a conference in Reno at the University of Nevada that talked about different stormwater and bioretention techniques. Some are really basic info but also some good overall information. The links to presentations are actually at the bottom of this page that you can scroll down to once you open the…[Read more]

It looks pretty old but I like the details and formality of it, especially as it moves between the brick wall.

Thanks for starting this, Theodore! I know this is hot stuff already in engineering, but there isn’t enough information on it as applies to LA.

Hey Jason, looks like the department has decided to ask you to lecture this coming Fall. I know it seems like it has taken forever, and I apologize but we have been very busy restructuring our program and interviewing potential department heads. The good news is that they still want you to come and lecture and the program is doing great. I also…[Read more]

Has anyone used epiphytes on green walls, and if so what success rate did you have. How did you attach them to the walls, simply on a wire trellis structure or did you use something more intricate – any info would be great!

There really is no boundary. The goal is to stimulate creativity. If the plastic plant roof has meaning and purpose beyond just looking unique then then i would want to hear about it. I think that what ever we do that is creative must be a mix of art with purpose. A lot of people end up posting cool pictures on Land8, but without explanation they…[Read more]

When in Landscape Architecture out of the Box? What defines the boundry. I can think of a roofscape-with plastic plants-that to me is cearly art not Landscape. Does just being unusual mean out of the box.

I noted Rico listed Ace Torre as an influence. I recently completed an extensive article profiling Torre for next month’s (May 09) issue of Landscape Architecture Magazine. It’s an in-depth look at his design drawing philosophies and techniques, with step by step photos of Torre in the studio creating one of his famous “tilt-up” aerial drawings.

Whilst I am glad you all find the discussion useful – let’s avoid blank statements and overlooking the progress some applications had achieved. Every release of each application brings many new and sometimes very good features. Some of these upgrades make a huge difference and change the appeal of the software.
So for 2D – AutoCAD LT is g…[Read more] -

I’ve been using Rhino and just a word of caution, it is primarily an industrial design 3D modeling program and I’ve found that it does not work well for large scale applications. It exceeds in designing small elements, which can then be exported into other programs that work better with land manipulation.
I think this conversation is great…[Read more]
