In my opinion this debate will be irrelevant within the next decade. First off, with products like Wacom’s Cintiq tablets, designers have the ability to hand render directly on the computer. I’ve made sketches on a tablet that look identical to similar traditional sketches. In addition to that, 3d apps like 3ds max are becoming increasingly capable of rendering complex scenes that look hand drawn but take a fraction of the time to complete and are completely editable. However, I do think that plan views tend to look better when they’re hand rendered.

For whatever reason Apple won’t fix the touchpad so that it works right in Bootcamp. I use a normal mouse most the time though so its not really a problem for me. One reason Vista may run faster than OS X is if you have the 64 bit version of windows installed with 4 or more GB of RAM. Leopard is only a 32-bit OS (as far as I know) so it can’t use more than around 3.5 GB of RAM where as a 64-bit OS can use it all. The only thing I can’t figure out is why the new Mac Pro’s have the option to install up to 32 GB of RAM if Leopard is in fact a 32 bit OS.

just some food for thought here but ironically enough Mac’s are setup in such a way that they actually run Vista better than PC’s. I don’t know the technical explanation (something to do with unix) but I will say that I’ve had a lot fewer problems with Vista Enterprise x64 on my macbook pro via bootcamp than I have had with my Dell desktop.

I personally hate parallels. I had xp installed through vmware fusion so I could run Autocad and it was so slow, even after I tweaked all the settings, that I just went back to bootcamp. If you think about it, it takes just as long to load up the virtual disk in parallels as it does to reboot in bootcamp. The difference is, in bootcamp your computer isn’t having to share processor and memory to run both OS’s. The downside is you have to save all your files to an external hard drive to transfer them back and forth. Also, as far as CS4 is concerned, its pointless to run it on any OS that isn’t 64 bit. The only real advantage to CS4 over CS3 is that it allows you to use more memory for programs like photoshop.

I would definitely visit Versailles while you’re in Paris. I thought it was amazing when I went and I’m not very easily impressed. The scale of it alone is mind blowing. I would suggest skipping the indoor tour though unless decadent furniture is your thing.
