Thanks Bob for your insight and a glimpse into your career!  Being young in this profession is very heck-tick, confusing, and fun.  I want to make sure I’m learning at an appropriate pace and I guess I’m curious to know how other firms function to make sure I’m getting the right experience.  Thanks again for your advice!

From my experience the world of landscape arch. is dependent on a PC operating system… Mac’s are great for Adobe CS but otherwise PC will make your life easier.  PC’s tend to be cheaper as well, but you will loose the sleek Mac design.  

But if you’re still in school, try to take advantage of your school’s computers.  They should have all the programs you need, plus it will save you money… just my opinion though.

I want to thank everyone who shared their views on graduate school and beyond.  It is amazing to see how some answers are very similar while other people had a completely different experience.  At this point after weighing some of the responses I think I am going to hold off on graduate school.  And if I do end up going back I would look at alternative fields other than landscape architecture.

I agree school is very expensive, in fact too expensive.  When I do look at firms online many of the people they have on display show they have a masters in landscape architecture.  But I do have to agree that this would not mean I would get more job offers in the future because of having a masters.

Thanks for the advice, I wish graduate school was free (haha).  But I understand what you’re saying, I’m currently working at an engineering consulting firm.  Unfortunately there is not a whole lot of design work but it has been a great learning experience so far.
