Boilerpate,
“Only landscape architects think landscape architects are necessary.”
How VERY TRUE! Wouldn’t it be a good idea to let others understand the importance of us too? I strongly believe in our work, the general public does not. Only because it is not a tangible thing like a building or a movie, the can not hold or see what we do, that is…[Read more]

Yes, Andrew, after reading it 4 or 5 times it does make sense and I do agree. Not very readable, but a good post. Thanks.

Sorry the rest of my post got cut off.
My question was with the ASLA. Who is the ASLA? What is the ASLA supposed to be doing?
In almost 25 years all I have seen them do is give out awards and print that magazine. Are they supposed to be educating the public?Yes, engineers, architects, urban planners, landscape contractors and developers can and…[Read more]

Jay, Andrew, John,
“The powers at be who ‘head’ this profession have dropped the ball by allowing engineers, architects, urban planners, landscape contractors and developers the ability to do everything we are trained to do..”

Jay,
I agree with what you say regarding the land 8 lounge, your candor is much appreciated. The urgent and pressing problems within our profession are just not even alluded to but, clever rhetoric prevail here. The more convoluted, intellectual, verbose sounding the post, the better. Instead, topics of semantics or the nuances of the quantum…[Read more]

Oye Sr. Lopez,

Keep in mind it is just not our profession that is screwed, look downstream. If the U.S. doesn’t completely become a third world country, I believe that there will be many public works in next 3-4 years. All of these tradesmen’s unemployment will run out, the government will have to be the one to put them to work when it runs out of teargas. The…[Read more]

Jason, instead of getting a reply to you very interesting post, you get somebody wanting to quibble about the semantics of the word “realist”……HUH?

Great comment! Russell you dared to mention some real problems, which will not go over well in this LA, LA Land Forum. You will be accused of being negative for speaking the truth as you see it. The people here want to talk about nonsense in extremely convoluted egghead language, rather than face the truth and offer solutions. So rather than…[Read more]

Lord! So many of these posts are so esoteric, like so many debates of the subtle nuances or the word “Development”. In this case, if you do not have the sense to use the right word to use to your specific audience, too bad. Ok, if you are addressing an angry mob of tree huggers, the word would denote something else than it would to a dep…[Read more]

Hello everyone, I stumbled onto this site and wasn’t even drunk. Glad I did, we are the salt of the earth, and I already feel like I have come home to the salt mines. I spent a few hours yesterday of exploration here, and will continue as long as this site is maintained. BTW, who does maintain it?
My name is Steve and live about an hour north of…[Read more]
