Cliff-top garden, Coverack, Cornwall

Design and build for a cliff-top garden, Coverack, Cornwall. The cottage had a small neglected and overgrown garden, hidden from the rest of the village but with stunning views of the rocky headland and sea. The 18th century cottage was built on the site of an old village quarry and the walls are made from Serpentine stone found on site, geologically unique to the area. The Lizard is an Area of Outstanding
Natural Beauty, famed for it’s flora and warm maritime climate.

The work in the garden is an on-going project. In it’s design I aimed to meet the need of the client for a welcoming retreat whilst respecting the wild beauty and history of the wider landscape. Many of the plants in the garden are cultivated varieties of native or ‘native like’ species. The
contours of the raised stone borders echo those of the coastline, creating ‘coves’ within the garden space.
