Hi guys
I am looking for good examples of public greenhousesCan you suggest me something?Thank youByeMarch 11, 2010 at 5:40 pm #170524Trace OneParticipant? What is your definition of a ‘public greenhouse”? Almost all the botanical gardens have greenhouses – BBG in Brooklyn, the National Arboretum in Wash D.C…The gorgeous one on the Mall in Wash D.C. – forget the name..
what is a ‘public greenhouse”?March 11, 2010 at 8:03 pm #170523Wes Arola, RLAParticipantMarch 11, 2010 at 8:20 pm #170522Jason T. RadiceParticipantUnited States Botanic Garden at the base of Capitol Hill (botanical is technically incorrect, as my former British botanic garden head would insist). The National Arboretum doesn’t really have big greenhouses for public perusal its pretty ,much all outside (and huge). Longwood Gardens in Kennett Square PA has a really nice one, as does the Druid Hill Conservatory in Baltimore.
March 11, 2010 at 8:44 pm #170521AlessandroParticipantI mean Greenhouses for public use, like the ones in some parks or botanic gardens, like u said 😀
March 11, 2010 at 8:44 pm #170520AlessandroParticipantthank you!
March 11, 2010 at 9:33 pm #170519Trace OneParticipantLongwood! Thanks Jason – really nice one! forgot about that..Bronx Botanic Gardens in new york also has really nice ones…
Have fun – fun to think about..
March 11, 2010 at 11:57 pm #170518Chad CrutcherParticipantSan Francisco Conservatory in Golden Gate Park, but again, this is not a public greenhouse, it is a botanical garden; open to the publc, but for viewing only. I do not know of any “public” greenhouses wherein one could garden their own plot.
March 12, 2010 at 1:31 am #170517Samuel MaindonaldParticipantThe Eden Project based in Cornwall, UK http://www.edenproject.com/ and Kew Gardens in London http://www.kew.org/visit-kew-gardens/index.htm. has a few historical greenhouses.
March 12, 2010 at 6:36 am #170516Aaron KraemerParticipantComo Conservatory in Saint Paul, Minnesota http://www.comozooconservatory.org/cons/index.shtml , or the Mitchell Domes in Milwaukee, WI http://www.county.milwaukee.gov/MitchellParkConserva10116.htm. The latter features different biomes.
March 12, 2010 at 11:10 am #170515AlessandroParticipantthank you guys, you are giving me really good informations
i am taking a look to some greenhouses you talked me about… them are great!March 12, 2010 at 8:10 pm #170514Rob HalpernParticipantYou might also look at some of the zoos: Randers Rainforest (Denmark) , Burgers Bush (the Netherlands), Masaola Rainforest (ZooZurich) for a different concept. There are fine public glasshouses in Amsterdam, Adelaide, Brussels, Wales, at Kew Gardens…the list is endless. The Gardens By The Bay in Singapore should be amazing when it opens.
March 12, 2010 at 8:53 pm #170513Brett LezonParticipantGarfield Park Conservatory and Lincoln Park Conservatory in Chicago, Illinois
I have pictures from Garfield Park Conservatory, I will post some to my Land8 account. The Garfield Park Conservatory is rather unique, I’d suggest reading more about the conservatory.
March 12, 2010 at 8:55 pm #170512Rob HalpernParticipantOne of my favorites: especially the huge fernery
March 12, 2010 at 10:25 pm #170511Brett LezonParticipantI’ve posted a variety of pictures from The Garfield Park Conservatory.
