Sorry Chuck to the best of my knowledge there isn’t any third party software for AutoCAD LT. You should have purchased a program called BricsCad. Land FX will run over BricsCad and AutoCAD. Also if you get on Hunters website they have some irrigation symbols inside a drawing called legend.dwg that you can download.

Hey Chuck,
I have done all of my irrigation design in Autocad. Like Nick has said, you can look online and im sure you can find plenty of symbols. I have myself made rotor symbols using symbols from online and the symbols that our office had allready made, plus gathering the spray radi’. Our office came up with some pretty simple designs, which…[Read more] -

Hmm..
Just of the top of my head I could tell you that there are website resources like cben.net (cad block exchange network) which offer free cad symbols and blocks. There are a couple of those sites. That’s about the best I can come up with at the moment.
Good Luck..

I just got AutoCAD LT. Is there any add on programs with irrigation symbols or do you know if I will have to create my own custom symbol library? I know you can run Raincad over AutoCAD (not sure about LT) but Raincad is over $1000 and money is an issue.
Thanks,

I worked in autocad when I did red line edits for the irrigation designers at edaw in fort collins. I think they all used vanilla autocad with some custom symbols/tags.

Graphics 16 years, 4 months agoEric,
I couldn’t tell you how to do it using drop shadows, but I could offer some good advice on doing it manually in photoshop without creating numerous layer copies and keeping the file size down.
send me a message if you still need help with this and I’ll explain some simple tricks.

I’ve heard of only a few projects in the US, and see no evidence they are being over-used. I’ve never lived in New York or Virginia, so maybe they are used there a lot and just aren’t widely known about in the midwest and west. Can you name a few of these projects in New York or Virginia and point to articles where residents say they hate the…[Read more]

RJoland, I have been in planning, commercial site plan review for 20 years, and the concept of shared space has nothing to do with the 50 foot wide road in huge residential developments in the middle of nowhere …Please! More respect, please..In my experience in planning in virginia and new york, everyone has heard of woonerfs, (at least since I…[Read more]

I’m working on something that sounds similar. I’ve started a site to track sources: http://www.mobilestorytelling.net (planning a big update in December) and keep a blog that is updated more frequently, http://www.brettoppegaard.blogspot.com. Should be some sources on those that might help. Good luck!

Trace, based on everything you’ve said here and in the other discussion, I think you are confusing the general lack of sidewalks and bike lanes in the US with the concept of shared space from the Netherlands. Developers in the US don’t use shared space as an excuse to not put in sidewalks and bike lanes, especially since most of them have never…[Read more]

You’re right that it is a tough sell. I think it will take a few really good projects in the US before the idea begins to catch on. There are only a few now in the US, and they are really just one or two streets or portions of streets in a few cities.
I guess what you’re getting at is that this is more of a local solution to traffic at the scale…[Read more] -

As the article pointed out, it is unfortunate that traffic planners aren’t trained along with other design professionals. I think that would help.

i like the idea that the ‘natural’ speed for humans is 20 mph – that would save a lot of gas..But I just hate this shared space stuff – could not link to the article Roland was siting, so read Salon interview, “why don’t we do it in the road..” The final insult, I think, is ‘shared space’ probably saves the developer tons of money..
But I want…[Read more] -

but my experience is, even bikers are not helping get bike lanes! the whole shared street thing has gone crazy! it ultimately benefits the developer – a shared street has got to be way cheaper..I don’t even want them at 10 mph..I want kids in the streets, and safe, and as far as I am concerned, that means separated with a grade change and…[Read more]

When I took the exam in the summer of 2008 there were not any “essay” or comparison type problems. I am not sure if they still have those on exams anymore. I know that friends and colleagues that have taken the exam the past couple of times have not had any problems like that either.
That’s not to say they will not have one this go around. So to…[Read more]

LEED in Landscape Architecture 16 years, 5 months agoI also got this information from GBCI: If you area a LEED AP and you choose a specialty – there is no harm in keeping your enrollment and that if you do not report any continuing education hours at the end of the 2 years your LEED AP with Specialty credential will expire, however you will remain a LEED AP without specialty.

Yes, writting is still part of the exam. From what Ive seen you have to design a site plan of a park, commercial site, or residential community and then write about the implications your site has both on and off site. Hope that helps, good luck.
