Calling Rhino a mid level modeling program is crazy. It is a much more accurate/powerful tool than Max. It has t-splines…….
And while Max has the majority of users in the past progressive firms are moving to Maya because of the scripting and dynamics.

Well when I first moved to Florida I felt overwhelmed too. But I learned to love the diversity of the plant life, and came to call it “Paradise“. Palm trees were the hardest for me to get used to, but eventually I could pick them all out and tell you all about them. I did however have some help from co-workers and a few good books. “Florida my Ede…[Read more]

A super effective and relatively cheap option is to take the local community college plant class. Here in Las Vegas they always have not for credit courses offered throughout the year. You could also contact the local extension service. Their plant guru’s will likely know who to talk to or where to look. Good luck.

Kelli here are a few things you need to decide first before making your decision…
What kind of design do you primarily do?
Where do you eventually want to go in your personal design?
What kind of firm do you want to work for?
How much time do you want to put in to this and money?I have used and am some what proficient in SketchUp, Rhino, Form…[Read more]

Hi Emily,
Glad to hear you are considering the Bay Area. It’s beautiful up here!
Some firms to look at in Marin County (North of SF) are:
April Philips Design Works
SWA – Sausalito
Blasen Landscape Architects
RHAA
Shades of GreenBlasen was just looking for an entry level candidate, so they might be a good place to start. Although, everyone is…[Read more]

Are you talking about modeling or are you talking about rendering? These are two different issues. If you are talking about rendering the answer is Vray because it is a plugin for SU/Max/Maya/Rhino. It is also the most common architectural render engine.
If you are talking about modeling then you might as well start with SU because it will only…[Read more]

I was just looking at a book today on the design of Reston, Virginia.
Reston Town Center is a pretty remarkable example of comprehensive urban design and planning for an entire city/community including public spaces.
I cant tell you for sure who did the original master plan, but I know Sasaki Associates did quite a bit.

Trouble is, folk want different things from their landscapes. Goats sure replace mowers, things that would actually poison them excepted, but folk want heath, brush, woods and forest often with areas of agriculture to remain and funnelling tourists into trails that have to be secure – you cant have a goat butting old ladies off the cliff – and…[Read more]

Hello Emily,
I work in Marin, Sonoma, Napa and occasionally The Sea Ranch. It is pathetically dead up here in regards to mid range to high end residential design. I don’t do much if any commercial work except for the occasionally winery.
Work load for my small atelier is about 65 to 75 percent down from the boom years.
The last firm that I heard…[Read more] -

I think most people will agree that the market is really tight right now. If you are looking for firms north of San Francisco, I have seen some postings for jobs in Sacramento like EDAW. Good luck!

the old days – Ed Bye’s landscape plans were incredible – ink on mylar – unique style – anyone remember him? “Art Into Landscape” is his book, with his plans in it..
and Hann/Olin perfected prisma on trace, with a closetful (literally) of burnt umber prisma’s, and six to nine foot long trace plans – incredibly beautiful.. mostly yellow…[Read more]

Arquitectos Boricua 16 years, 5 months agoUn sitio favorito mio es la playa de Naguabo. Por chance mi esposa y o pasamos por Naguabo al regresar a Fajardo. I wish I spent more time there but I didn’t as it was a vacation and not so much an opportunity to study spaces. My wife would have drown me en el mar if we stopped so I could sketch and study.
