Nick, the black stuff is actually landscaping plastic, not typar. I’m not a huge fan of typar either it is a much better option than the plastic that is being used around here. In my opinion, the plastic is the worst thing that can be used. It allows no gas exchange, water percolation, and like you said, doesn’t help with the weeds over the long…[Read more]

I do do my homework on these firms and weave it into the application package. However, like I said, there is only so much you can learn from the net. Often times websites offer a very broad overview of a firm’s services and project-types. And more often than not, these websites aren’t updated to reflect a firms current focus during this unique…[Read more]

The typar fabric theyre laying down is to stop weed growth which will inevitably happen, even in the rocks. Thing is, the fabric also inhibits spreading plants from growing and some water percolation. I think it’s kind of silly to have a parking lot drain into a swale like this with only rocks, no biofiltration or aesthetic quality. Are those…[Read more]

I hear what you’re saying about the volume, but this method has worked quite well for me in the past. I do try to tailor the cover letter to the firm I’m applying for as much as I can. But most often, information about that particular firm is limited. Unless you happen to know someone who works there, your information on a firms needs can be…[Read more]

Thanks all for the suggestions. I seem to have hit a bit of a stand still with the progress. Im really interested in Europe, but at rutgers, our fall semester senior year we have to take a class on Construction Documentation. So im looking for a program that has something similar to this course.(trying to not let studying abroad delay my…[Read more]

Nick – I think my school has connections with Leeds University, but I guess I’m not sure if Leeds University and Leeds Metropolitan U is directly connected. Thanks for the recommendation
Megan – Hey! Yeah, as far as I know we are required to do abroad study in order to graduation. I talked to my counselor briefly, and from what she said, it was…[Read more] -

I appreciate all the discussion on this topic. I have a 5 person landscape architecture firm, and I have run AutoCad exclusively for 15 years. I’m almost embarrassed to say that my first version of Autocad was MS DOS based! I move in and out of frustration with AutoCAD. It is a program originally designed to draw engineered mechanical parts that,…[Read more]

Our program is very similar in that our entire L.A. class travels together (optional, but everyone goes). I would definitely suggest the main cities like Barcelona, Paris, London, Berlin, Rome, Lisbon etc. Barcelona is by far my favorite city, and Gaudi’s work is amazing. But stepping off the beaten path have been the most treasured experiences.…[Read more]

Jason, I think your choice is wise. You can’t go wrong with your Europe selection. I’ve travelled extensivelly throughout Europe and loved my experiences. It will certainly be closer to the States. Someday you may want to venture further outside the US even if it is just for fun. Traveling is still an education. It opens your eyes to different…[Read more]

Hey,
Thanks for the responses everyone…I am working on a project for my studio class which is the reason for my search. We were just in Denver last weekend visiting our site, which is the old Gates Rubber Factory at the corner of Mississippi and Broadway in Denver. Should be a fun project, but still having trouble finding a base map. It appears…[Read more] -

Hi Jason,
My university has a semester long (fall) study aboard program in paris that is geared specifically for landscape architecture students which is very unique. you will find a lot of planning or architecture study aboard programs but not a landscape one.
