I have worked there (spent 07 in Shanghai) and three others from US are in same firm–“safe” as far as crime, but air quality can be depressing and drivers are reckless–still, no one I know who is there minds that degree of unsafe.

I understand that all software comes with a learning curve. SU for instance boasts a short curve, to which in my experience I would agree. And it was totally different from CAD as well. I am curious as to other’s experience to the switch. Tried it, but went back to CAD/LFX? Jumped right in and never looked back? Struggled for months but finally…[Read more]

I did a three month internship in Hangzhou, China near Shanghai. I lived in an international dorm at one of the local universities. The only trouble I really had to deal with were bike thieves. There were a few international people in my office that had apartments in the city and didn’t have many problems as far as I know. I walked around at night…[Read more]

I would be interested in knowing what Brents take on the U of Arizona Masters is like – do they have a particular ‘bent’ ? I gave a paper at the CELA conference in Tuscon this year and the Uof Arizona people, as far as I was concerned, really stood out as being very good scholars…How did you like U of Arizona?

Hi Jess – I am a little late replying to this conversation, but I also just graduated with an MLA from the University of Arizona, and will second the plug of an MLA as a viable option.
I have a previous degree in Fine Art, but had never worked before in the field and was a typical career-shift student. I interned with a firm last summer, and was…[Read more]

I am not sure of any wineries, but there is a brewery in Portland, OR that reuses its wastewater and recycles all of the biproducts from the brewing process. I know that the process are not exactly the same, but some of the systems might be similar. The name of the brewery is Bridgeport Brewery. Hope this helps..and good luck!

Design Technology 16 years, 6 months agoI just got Revit and am starting to play around with it. Has anybody started to use it? I might have to take a training course though. We will see.
Also started playing with Maya’s MEL scripting. I got a book called “MEL Scripting for Animators” which is really good so far but slow to get through.

I’m going to be watching this one with interest, as we have the same issues here in South Africa. I’m told that recycling the water is a tricky issue, as there are vitriolic acids (or something like that – their name eludes me right now) and residues which can only be removed with Reverse Osmosis. Even if you do use R.O. on the water, the…[Read more]

Brenden, Welcome to the Lounge! If I can be of some assistance in your efforts to get to know the program, I’d be glad to help. I might also recommend visiting the community board on the Vectorworks website, as many of the users there are ready to help with advice and resources as well. http://techboard.nemetschek.net/ubbthreads/ubbthreads.php?ubb=…[Read more]
