Therapeutic Landscapes Network 16 years, 10 months agoHere’s an article that some of you may find interesting, about what they are saying is the first “universally accessible” playground. I have a feeling it’s not the first, but it’s still perhaps a good example, anyway. Anyone down in FL want to visit and report back to us? http://tinyurl.com/mp4x6t.

Did Berkely get it’s accredidation back, I know around 2000 they were having some issues with accredidation… Pomona is unique in that the department of environmental design has a LA department, Architecture department, Urban Planning department, Graphic Arts, and a cutting edge sustainability program (John T Lyle Center), so you would be able to…[Read more]

You should take the time to visit Pomona and talk to some of their students and professors. I visited and almost went there in 2003, but I got into my hometown program (Minnesota) so I went there instead. Pomona seems like they are doing some great things. Also, the professors I met with there were very kind and open. It had a great atmosphere as…[Read more]

Brian, do you really think those people were laid off because they couldn’t draw?
I agree that having a balanced set of skills will serve anyone well, in any economic climate, even ditch-digging, which is why my hands are covered in callouses today and not marker ink. lol..

A portion of my thesis deals with cultural landscapes. If you would like some excellent reading material about the subject you should look into Cultural Landscapes by Richard Longstreth, Preserving Cultural Landscapes in America by Alnen & Melnick, and Landscape Interfaces by Hannes Palang and Gary Fry.
Another resource that deals with cultural…[Read more]

I worked from home for approximately 4 months 3-5 days/ week during my fall semester at CSU. I worked via a company laptop working over their remote server. The local office was 65 miles away and I didn’t own a car (still dont, actually). I completed a number of fairly large drawings for them on tight deadlines, admittedly, sometimes…[Read more]

Are you talking about getting pics up onto this group discussion or onto your folio? I always use the ‘simple uploader’ when uploading to my folio, I find it less glitchey as you mentioned. For posting here, just hit the camera button above and make sure you image is in an acceptable format (jpeg) and 72-150 dpi and less than about 500…[Read more]

If by ‘cultural landscape’ you mean context-sesnitive design, then yes, I do know what it is about.
I think cultural landscapes are landscapes which identify someting specific and unique abou a given culture and its people. It’s important to take culture into account when designing public space because you want the spece to be meaningful to the…[Read more]

Ben,
If all you are saying is that this idea should be given a chance to prove itself, I find it hard to argue with that. I certainly wouldn’t stand in the way of someone who wanted to do it, and I don’t think that trucks being able haul large amounts of food justifies bringing all our food into cities from far flung corners of the earth. I just…[Read more] -
