Graphics 16 years, 10 months agoI think if you size the width of your images to about 400pixels wide that should fit just right, also you (everyone) should do everyone else a favor and keep your dpi under 150…more like 100 or even 72 to avoid sluggish scrolling.

Thanks a lot. I think we might have some companies in Turkey giving similar services. I’ll check about it.

It just depends if it works for the area. I live in denver and a lawn thrives here with little effort. On the other hand I am from north Texas where it is very windy and dry so a lawn is silly and wasteful there.
It often comes down to price per square foot. It is hard to sell an existing HOA group, commercial client, etc. that they should spend…[Read more]

Graphics 16 years, 10 months agoAgain why do some of the images get stretched out while others look fine… I am guessing that there is some kind of ideal image size for the group walls, does anybody know what that size limit is so that we can actually see what people are posting? Vladimir’s images are all stretched out while right below his Nick’s look perfect, is any one else…[Read more]

First of all there is a diference between turf and lawn, turf is a plant material or a grass, a lawn is a space with low growing plant material most notibly turfgrass. Second, in northern climates where cool season grasses grow do a google search for Eco-Turf by Tom Cook, he is a now retired turfgrass expert out of Oregon State University, he…[Read more]

Florida has a specific section of the LARE that it requires candidates pass prior to becoming licensed. It covers many areas but not specifically grading and drainage.
You are correct about the question of whether local goverment agencies have the right to elevate the standards of submittal to the exclusion of all statute qualified professionals…[Read more]

You are not dumb or uniformed, Jennifer. You are right on. There is no advantage in being complacent about the diminshing role landscape architects are being resigned to. It is essential to the future of our practice that landscape architects exercise the rights we have to their limits. While we can equivocate about how much business we stand to…[Read more]

I shouldn’t say this, since I have freinds in Reno who are trying to start a hydroponics business, but it is mainly the hydroponics part of this system I’m not too fond of. The thing is, it requires the same artificial fertilizers that the huge factory farms do. I just think you get a better product when you farm organically in the soil on the…[Read more]

It is a concern, but it is actually a little short sighted on their part and may actually hurt them. EDAW, as you said, is widely recognized. It will be tougher sell (I think) to refer to AECOM: Design and Planning) – is it very clinical and corporate.

Bianca,
I worked for AECOM and on some level think that the name change is good. AECOM sells it’s range of services to a lot of international clients who don’t know the name EDAW, as hard as that is to believe. Though some of the companies AECOM has acquired have retained their names, most do not.I’m sorry to say but I think with the change of…[Read more]

Hi Andrew, first, thank you for your contribution to this thread.
In the State of Florida, in the Southwest Florida Water Management District, a developer doesn’t even have the choice to use a landscape architect to prepare the stormwater plans. This is in a state that recognizes landscape architects as being qualified to prepare stormwater plans.…[Read more] -

Thanks, Bob. I ended up ordering from a clearance house and got some De Witt at a reasonable price. We’ll see how well it works. You are right about product reps. I ordered some Permaloc for edging and the the reps were really helpful.

i’m all for a good critique, but disregarding unique approaches to future problems because of assumptions based on the endless supply of cheap oil is not cool.

talk to your local product reps, most of whom would be very happy to supply you with their product, for your test project, because once you find the solution, you are more likely to repeat the results and spec the product on the next job, thus adding to their sales totals.
