I don’t think you’re “harping,” actually I think when we have the means of communicating about whatever we can use to gain perspective, it can help counteract any sense of isolation or the “what’s wrong with my own scene” mental state that can take hold. Of course there are general news sources with sobering information, but they focus more on…[Read more]

The problem is managing the help and the costs associated with it. Labor issues, labor issues, labor issues. Then the overhead forces you to keep work coming in even when it is lesser work than you intend to do. Then the referals are for more and more lower end stuff and that is what you become, if you are not careful.
Getting in on good t…[Read more] -

Yeah and in our neck of the woods they don’t even put out design/build bids. It is always separate. We already do a separate design contract from the build work, so there is no guarantee either way. A design/build firm could still put in a bid that could be compared…I think it is actually a lot more efficient to have the person designing oversee…[Read more]

Landscape planner, I would like to know more about your Landscape Architecture job in China. I’ve noticed more job posts for entry level positions in China. What are your thoughts on the jobs out there and your experience? I graduated with a BA in LA, but I have not yet taken a job in this field since graduation. I have been thinking of applying…[Read more]

Hello Chris,
I’ve been away from Land8 for awhile as I have been busy with other things. I doubt it has to do with a link problem because it would state that when I open up the InDesign document. But regardless, is there a way to find out of a broken link?
Your second guess could be a likely problem. I will try to tinker around with the ppi to see…[Read more] -

Yeah. Once somebody gets a reply for a resume sent out since 2008, or has more than one project a month on the boards at the most, let us now. After that, maybe we’ll know their might be an uptick,,,

Okay, enough is enough. Can we give this whole thread the royal rest and deliberate negligence it so badly needs ? Everything that needs to be said has been stated here and elsewhere in related posting topics. Please people, move on.

Such an interesting thread, I think that a lot of people in a variety of professions are struggling. It’s not an LA recession, it’s an international recession. I know that there some bullet-proof careers out there but I’m not a doctor, lawyer, or business executive ; ). I’m trying to take broad approach to the situation and cast a wide net. I just…[Read more]

Viridian is a bluish color, right? So I guess the name of the neighborhood symbolizes that it will be under water at some point.

From the article: “Huffines is developing Viridian, 5,000 units on a 2,300-acre site in a flood plain near a landfill in Arlington, Texas.”
Sounds like an awesome site! I have to pay for flood insurance, live with the risk of flooding AND I get to smell landfill stench all the time?! AND its in Texas! I’ll be surrounded by Con…[Read more] -

The “Workforce Investment Act” will pay for classes. In my area (San Francisco) There are a lot of corporate training companies that offer the training as well as community colleges and universities. I agree that you need to show that it could lead to a job, so come prepared.
I don’t think you’ll finding funding for ASLA membership, but maybe you…[Read more]

LOL!! Hilarious. It took but a mere 5 minutes to research and write my comment for Zhu. Landscape Architecture is business. Since we know a lot of design/build business is picking up while the larger design firms are languishing I think it points to the large decrease in public spending and the fact that many private individuals still have money, some of them a lot. In our little town we have very large firms from large cities competing for public projects they…[Read more]
