I think the article is about how deceptive architects are being, and use the comfy dialect of site to convince, whicle their true impulse right now is to be brutalist and modernist in the extreme. Zaha Hadid is an excellent example of brutalism, in my opinion..
So I agree with Roland, this writer is not interested in co-opting, it seems like he…[Read more] -

LARE is very hard to pass for the same reason that landscape architecture is such an odd design field. The problem is not the test. The problem is that landscape architect is a blend of left brain and right brain while most people are wired one way or the other.
We all want to make the arguement that only landscape architecture are qualified to…[Read more] -

It is the responsiblity of the designer to take into account ALL groups. Just wait until you are old, Wyatt, and find negotiating a 50 foot walk is a big day – but a good one. But the designer behind your walk didn’t want benches to clutter the thing up!.
It’s ridiculous, to prioritize design over need of humans. Reminds me of the Seagram…[Read more] -

I wish when architects are inspired by landscape, they should consider the functional aspect of the spaces and not just form. Somehow I think a Zaha building is too static and rigid to be considered landscape, and unfortunately the exterior spaces of her buildings are just as static and anything but dynamic as what landscape or nature truly i…[Read more]

Millennium is an excellent spring, summer and fall park, no doubt about it. It’s crowds are a testament to that fact. It’s a really well designed park, in general. It’s modern but ties into the adjacent classic architecture. It’s spacious and popular yet it still enables you to find a quiet spot to yourself. It has a variety of attractions and…[Read more]

Yeah, they’re about 30 minutes away. I already spoke to them a while back. Maybe I didn’t appear to be stable enough after a few layoffs. I was told they have a problem with people leaving after they’ve invested training into them. There is probably a reason they have people leaving regularly. Maybe the boss is a nut job. They often seem to b…[Read more]

Thanks. I left last spring. I have family in NJ so it made sense to come back here. I really prefer the southwest. Much of the “scenery” here is rotting old cities, bleak strip malls, and sheet metal warehouses. I’m tired of looking at it! That’s one of the reasons I moved west in the first place. At least you still have inspiring scenery…[Read more]

The guy seemed concerned about my ability to tolerate the commute…it would be a horrendous and costly commute if I were to drive from Trenton every day. I think I’d lose it! I told him I would find a room to rent during the week. Might be practical. His last guy left w/o warning and he thought he just got fed up with the commute after dri…[Read more]

Thanks very much. The second suggestion solved the problem. I did not realize that the width would stay fixed at the last setting used by the person who created the file. Now I can get to work.

I geuss I need to create a sub-set, rob..the point of transit centers like Penn Station any greyhound station is to avoid people….Or how about the NYC subway system – wouldn’t you agree that you want the least contact with your fellow – riders as possible?
However, insofar as bars, concert halls – other types of ‘public spaces’ – I would agree,…[Read more] -

Different designers get inspiration from different sources. Sometimes they are practical, sometimes philosophic, sometimes metaphoric, and sometimes a bunch of BS to justify something they just plain wanted to do. It matters not which design profession. That diversity is a great thing because it offers choices to the real people behind the project…[Read more]

that is a good point, andrew. I hate the configuration that trasit centers all use, of clumping a bunch of benches in the center of a space (nothing to guard your back at all), and placing each bench at a 90 degree angle to an adjacent bench.. the point of public spaces is to avoid strangers..a 90 degree angle makes it almost impossible..Better at…[Read more]

On the lower right of your screen you should have buttons … “snap, grid. ortho, osnap, dyn, lwt, …”. “LWT” activates or de-activates “lineweights”. If you “right click” you will be offered a settings option. Click on that and there is the lineweight AND a box to check or uncheck called “display settings”. I’m unsure if this is the problem or…[Read more]

Boilerplater:
Looks like you have (temporarily ?) left the southwest. How did your job interview go ? Brooklyn is a long way from the Mojave and Sonoran deserts, but maybe you needed the distance and change of scenery. Good luck out there.

I’m more concerned about what is behind me when it comes to comfort on a public bench. I don’t think I’m alone on that.
