Both times that I was in school (one degree – U Idaho) a number of the LA students in and around my class were former architecture students – is that true with other schools as well?

i agree with nick that once a designer always a better designer. i am a landscape arch. student but i do architectural projects with much ease since they are more rectilinear than those of landscape which involve so many curves.

Maybe my statement was too broad. Maybe I would say design is design..until something needs to get built.

I don’t think anyone is saying that all architects can design all landscapes. Nick said “if you work hard and know your $hit” as a qualifier. It looks like this seminar is to try to help them know a little more $hit.

I agree to a point. If you are good at design, then you can stand a pretty good shot at designing almost anything. However, that doesn’t meant you have an apitiude for a particular type of design.

I’ve come to find that if you are a designer you can design anything. It’s only design. People that rely on titles probably have reason to feel threatened.

The Singapore Insitute of Landscape Architects was my starting point, but there’ll be other firms not listed with them. Basically, use Google to find firms.
 
@Jards – thanks for that info, really useful. I’m keen to work anywhere in Asia, I think I’d enjoy the experience.

I agree with Michael.  I think that the design team must have thought about it a great deal and there was probably more integrity of heart and solidarity of mind than any other project they may have worked on before.  I’m certainly glad to see so much open space and so many gorgeous trees. After 30 years of being a general contractor and landscape and pool contractor and now going to get my arch degree im going for both that way it gets built the way i want. Everyone here cries but wont step up,oooooohhhh those bastards…………….get thr f ………….ova it bunch a kiitttties !

If they can beat us at our game for a particular project, they are either good, or there is not much of “our skills” that are needed for the project. Either way, I don’t think there is any good reason to feel like a victim over it.
