Go north, young man. There’s work available and if things get really, really bad, there’s lots of large ungulates to eat should we dip below Stage 3 Societal Collapse.
It’s why I’m here. -

Thomas you SHOULD ride the rails and see who you meet…then write about it. You can be the next Keroauc. That might be interesting. I know people still do it…when I was in high school we helped at the shelter and met families riding the rails from WA to MT in the middle of winter!

Hey Thomas – we have a camper in the woods with its very own outhouse if you’re in danger of becoming the King of the Hobos. On second thought, better Jim Tully than Ted Kosinski. Maybe you’re destined to write hobo poetry, pulp fiction and lasting ballads of Americana….

I do count my lucky stars with this job – I’ve only had it for four years..and I am 54..When I was 33, (got my MLA at 30) I was working for $10 an hour for a florist who did perennial garden installation and maintenance in the summer – I didn’t live with my mom, but neither did I pay my bills very effectively..Never really got much better than…[Read more]

Easy for you to say Ms. Cushy Gov’t job… 😉
Out here in the real world it’s pretty grim…
I applied for a job managing a coffee shop last week! I’m 33 and live with my Mom! It couldn’t be much worse… I actually fantasize about being a hobo and riding the rails… at least it would be more exciting than this slow humiliating death……[Read more] -

This recession still has nothing on the Great Depression though…and we never made it to Stage 5. In fact, I think that human’s do better in crisis then when things are going well. To survive you often need to rely on each other…whereas when things are going hunky dorey you mosey on your own way. Even consider this website…if we were all…[Read more]

Nicely done, although bleakly done, Chupa! Been reading Cormac McCarthy? Or did you find this someplace? Personally I’m at stage three due to watching this recent debacle over the debt ceiling. You want to say HEY! If more people were WORKING and PAYING TAXES and PRODUCING and CONSUMING, then we wouldn’t have the deficit we do. But no, that…[Read more]

I prefer douglas adams’ “three stages of man’s evolution”
How shall we eat?
What shall we eat?
And where shall we do lunch?
I could be worse, couldn’t it, guys? -

I would also recommend investing in hand tools. If you don’t need them yourself, they will retain high value when you barter.
What stage of societal collapse do you think we will hit? Where do you think we are now?
Stages of Collapse Stage 1: Financial collapse. Faith in “business as usual” is lost. The future is no longer assumed res…

Yeah, things are so much more FUBAR than people realize… I love the term “recession”, especially “double dip recession”… this isn’t a freakin’ ice cream cone we’re talking about!
Here in the US, we’ve been hovering at 9% unemployment since 2008, despite consistently losing jobs for the last 3 years. It’s some pretty creative math they are…[Read more] -

I can’t believe our economy rests in the hands of such a bunch of whining adolescent ninnies.
Sadly, as citizens, they are OUR ninnies that WE put there doing for US what we didn’t want to think much about over the years. Any one of us can say “Well I voted for smart people not that jerk,” but that’s moot in a “democracy.” And L.A.s can look to…[Read more]
