After saying all that, it would be really cool to apply hydrology models to economics…

No, Academic Planning bodies are the worst, they are actually worse than Planning Boards or Commissions of small towns..

lol
Yeah, I’m pretty sure it’s been confirmed that economics is not a real profession. It’s just a bunch of academics rubbing their chins, spewing terminology that means absolutely nothing. They can’t predict anything. All of their studies are retrospectives… “oh, well, this economic event fits perfectly in my blah, blah, blah, model… ” If…[Read more] -

I start hyperventilating if I see too many charts and graphs.
Haha, quote of the day.

David Barbarash replied to the topic Does anyone use Rhino for Landscape design? in the forum GENERAL DISCUSSION 14 years, 9 months ago
My 2 cents:
I’ve messed around with Rhino a few times. I liked the CAD style interface and ease of laying out 2D linework to extrude into 3D objects. What I DIDN’T like was the reliance of NURBS based modeling. I believe that our work is better served with a solids modeler (like 3D Studio max, Cinema 4D, or Sketchup) as it’s more relatable to…[Read more] -

To add to Craigs: never promise to make someone else happy. Tell them what service/product they will receive–period. Don’t be afraid to (politely) fire a client.
Years ago, I suggested to a couple that they might want to consider a marriage counselor instead of a landscape architect.
And Craig–hang in there….Retired homeowners assoc…[Read more] -

Au contraire Jason, have you not heard of the certainty of Death and Taxes????

Sometimes I feel like I was forced to exit! Yet I still keep looking for jobs, hoping to get back into it, even as others have advised me, even IMPLORED me to find something else. Its hard to leave something I’ve put so much of myself into, so many years of my life! Recently I had a temp job testing infusion pumps for a hospital. In tal…[Read more]

Thought about it…and then I thought go into what? Spend more money educating myself in something that doesn’t promise any better chance of employment. I could change jobs for a while…but not careers. At this point, there really isn’t anything safe to go into!

I was looking to enter the LA market in December when I graduate with my BLA/MLA degree, but its not looking good, and am now looking at Planning positions instead, which is what my undergraduate degree was in…so thanks graduate school for nothing!

On a side note…how do you deal with clients like that. Oy vay…we had a guy that was upset some replacement plants had finished blooming before the existing ones…due to the difference in weather here and the nursery. Sheesh. Just have to get thicker skin I guess!

My husband graduated in 2008 and I in 2009…we have been dealing with this for years. Stick around…this is a good place to learn how people are finding ways to keep their foot in the door. I am always advising people to try their hand at design/build…as I think you can make more then working at a nursery. 🙂

I agree – but it’s quicker to use those and brush that out than it is to start from scratch… What do you usually use?

You can easily add trees by clipping out backgrounds of images and such. Here’s a great site that has the trees ready.

I’m a good self-learner so my way of going about learning new things is http://www.lynda.com >it does have a monthly cost but the tutorials are AWESOME (versus free ones around the internet). I HIGHLY suggest this site. It additionally has a vast amount of tutorials for different programs.
For indesign – I would start out with putting a simple image…[Read more] -
