Jordan, There won’t be a drafting program. Instead, candidates will be required to provide solutions by answering questions about the vignettes presented on the screen in front of them. The questions will involve selecting the correct solutions, just as a drafting a solution would do.

Kelly, I suspect from your comments that you may also not be an active member of ASLA, so if this is not true, please fast forward…I think your dilemma is certainly going to be more common, but what is not common is your dedication to staying involved with ASLA, when you can hardly afford it. For that, I think many within ASLA would commend you.…[Read more]

Hostile? People in here are generally pushovers and soft. On occasion, people become passionate about certain subjects and methods of producing their work. I’m not sure what your idea of ‘hostile’. For the most part, we may disagree but comments are respectful. Now, I don’t even have to view your profile to know you’ve never dealt with finicky…[Read more]

Don’t like the topics or the ‘conversation’? Start your own thread…thats how these “social media” things work.

It’s pretty good but I’d prefer the real thing…
I have met some interesting/entertaining people, have seen some inspirational work and have obtained some great resources.
Pretty good but it sure would be nice to go to an office every day… -

School prepares you for the parts of the exam that test you on things you will never use as a professional. Your first jobs will prepare you for all the parts of the exam that test you on being a good LA. That’s a gross generalization but I think not far from reality.

I empathize with your situation. I started taking the tests right after my now three year old was born. It is difficult to carve out study time. I found myself only being able to work on problems during my lunch break.

It was not a secret that changes were coming. We did not know the details, but it should not be a surprise. It is frustrating for people that want to start taking the tests now, since all that you can safely take is A and B.
Well transitions are tough, I remember when all the colleges in my area were going from quarters to semesters. That was a…[Read more] -

SketchUp 14 years, 10 months agoIn regards to the first comment about the program operating very slow, I would guess that either there are so many objects in the file that it is making the program run slow, or hardware on your computer such as your CPU and/or your Memory are not fast enough for the program. In regards to the CAD to Sketchup, Google removed that option in the…[Read more]

Great minds think alike I guess. It doesn’t sound like there’s going to be much leeway with CLARB so I’m going to spend my time studying for D. It will likely be more productive.

I looked up the ARE transition plan to make sure I had the fact correctly…after such a date and you had taken at least ONE 3.1 level exam, you had ONE YEAR to complete the remainder 3.1 tests. If you did not, you had to refer to a chart to see which test(s) you had to take which 4.0 level exams were the equivalent. However, they gave…[Read more]

Its funny that we graduated together what 5, 6 years ago? and here we are in the exact same position with the LARE regarding tests yet to take.
Regarding CLARB, I have tried contacting Rebecca Moden. To put it bluntly, she could care less what people’s issues with the transition are. You might think about posting on the CLARB discussion board…[Read more] -

It sounds like those who’ve contacted CLARB directly are all met with the same rote response: “you should be able to pass a section in two administrations,” which doesn’t take into account real life. I’ll call my state board tomorrow, but I’m not sure what power they’ll have.

Hello!
Personally, If you’re concern about the cost, I will suggest you forgo the class and explore the free or lower cost resources online, such as:
Adobe TV, YouTube, Cadeeze, Vimeo, Lynda.com/cs4
In a two-week course all you probably get are basic commands and tools.
Hope this helps…

Unless you like something written to the lowest common denominator, I’d avoid the “For Dummies” books.
Reading a “how-to” book without being able to try it out never worked well for me. It was hard to retain the knowledge or understanding of what I read when it came time to actually do the work and I’d end up consulting the book all over again.…[Read more] -
