The State of California has a Practice Act and a Title Act. Definitely need the stamp.

State – Massachusetts: Title Act, no direct requirement that any private work requires an LA, the state may require a stamp on state projects.
Local communities: There is one zoning district in one of the 15 towns that requires a stamped plan by an LA (an LA was hired as a consultant when the zoning by-law was being altered). It is a commercial…[Read more] -

Rob,
I put myself through three years of graduate school as a single Mother of two. When I graduated, I was one of the only people in my class to get a job right away. And you know why? Not because they felt sorry for me, but because anyone who is able to accomplish a rigorous graduate program and still have two well-adjusted kids has to be…[Read more] -

“This is the biggest dicotomy of the LA profession. We have too many LAs right now so that no one can get an internship to make themselves yet another LA. So, the notion is that because there are too many, we should drop the standard and make even more yet with less experience.
How will that help anything other than individual egos in the…[Read more] -

Here is SC’s practice act:
(5) “Landscape architect” means a person licensed to practice landscape architecture in this State.
(6) “Landscape architecture” means the performance of professional services, such as consultation, investigation, research, planning, design, preparation of drawings and specifications, and responsible inspection in…[Read more] -

Andrew: “What can you not do in your state that an LA can besides going after work that the developer requires a licensed LA?”
I can’t call myself a landscape architect. -

I’m in the same boat: City College vs. Cornell, I would love to go back to Cornell in a heart beat but 90k min in debt seems crushing and all this feedback from actual LAs is making me swing towards City College alot more. I’m visiting the school on Thursday, will report back on what I think of the program!

Good luck — I would stay with City and try to grab an assistantship or job. I’m currently in school, finishing my 5th semester at UF – 2 more to go. I work 2 jobs (one at the university and the other as a teaching assistant) and I still racked up $35k by having to pay two semesters out of state. The other 3 semesters I have worked and had 9 cr…[Read more]

Have been meaning to reply to this post, but with work & the countless “Are you OK/radioactive?” messages…
At any rate, I by and large agree with what’s been written.
I’d just like to emphasize that there exists in Japan a very long standing tradition of “rebuild it”: the 30 year renewal of Ise Shrine, 20 year rethatching of Gasho house rooves,…[Read more] -

Leidsche Rijn in the Netherlands is an entirely new addition to the city of Utrecht that’s still under construction – http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Leidsche_Rijn
I did a case study on it in grad school (self plug 🙂 http://courses.umass.edu/greenurb/2006/averel/index.html -

I understand that at the moment it is not actual, but I think that for the future we may invite some constructions in the ocean in front of Japanese cities whitch would brake tsunami before it reaches the beach. To work out this plan we need to collaborate and maybe take architects or civil engineers to our group. We need to create a team and…[Read more]

This is my best list of 3D and some 2D/ 2.5D trees from 3D warehouse.
Wyatt’s wisdom is right on: use 2D trees everywhere, 3D when you need the quality up close when it matters. -

I see the focus on financial in your analysis but I don’t have a sense of what your LA aspirations are or how that english degree background has been applied (i.e. – what have you been doing and for how long?) nor how many years you would be looking at paying back the debt vs. saving for the future. A big decision for sure – Cornell in-state m…[Read more]
