Aw crapola, there I go throwing stuff around on the internet again. Isn’t intellectual property copyright established the moment an image is created? That’s what it says in the book I’m reading right now… Are you guys going to “borrow” another one of my ideas…? Hey, as long as I get a nice royalty check every quarter I’m all for it…

You said it all, brother! Haha. Excellent post.
And let me add about our friend the civil engineer. Just yesterday, we LAs and Planners came across this plan. This is a high end hotel design with beautiful landscaping, lighting, signage, etc. The engineers decided to place the backflow preventer, all the utility boxes…right in front of the…[Read more] -

I think it’s really important for A/E students to be exposed and be trained on how the real world works. I’ve been on several projects where the project manager thinks as long as the drawings are out on time and the project is under budget, he/she did a good job. Project management isn’t as simple as that and neither is running a business. Yo…[Read more]

3ds max + landscape architecture 15 years, 3 months agoPersonally, I would rather see it opened up to other render engines as well, partially because I use a different one than 3DS now, and also because it would be a good way for people unfamiliar with the strengths of different programs to see what they can do.

Hi Wendy: Did you take Section E last June? I’m thinking about taking it this June 2011.

so now it will take 7 years to get a 4 year degree? Schools are already having hard time cramming required material into the 4 year model (which, like arch needs to go 3+2) Even with 5 years, it is not enough time (IMHO) to get a throrough education.

thanks for all the feedback on this discussion (even the ‘fugly’ comment) 🙂 Turns out the design has changed quite a bit..still going with a living wall, but abandoning the downspout connection and going with an above ground tank where irrigation (and winter disconnect) can be better managed. Permeable pavement will still be used but with t…[Read more]

Someone mentioned on this blog that the business model of the A/E firms with “grab some work”, have upper management above and project managers and CAD jockeys below, somehow needs to be changed. This is a model I certainly have experienced many times. The problem is can it ever be changed? Why is it ALWAYS the PE at the top? Does municipal…[Read more]

Excellent points.
I just had a conversation last night about being “over-plugged in”. Maybe it’s a generational thing. I remember a time when it took planning and effort to connect (doesn’t trying to find a pay-phone sound quaint?). Now it seems it takes the same amount of effort to be left alone!
Maybe we are in an age where we need to…[Read more] -
