Seems like this is getting to a be a lively thread!
To anyone who cares, the job market here in Arizona is very slow, but not yet dead. Here’s my take on the following markets, from my point of view!

You could probably add a description of your duties under the title and point out that you did project management as a part of being a landscape designer. If (should I says “when”?))) you get to the interview you surely will be asked to speak about your role in the firm and you’ll be able to get to the details.

I thought political blogs were around to deal with this – sheesh. I was taught in college that politics made for impolite work conversations.
Anywho, speaking of positioning ourselves I thought this was interesting:

This has gotten a bit beyond entertaining. The frustration on BOTH sides is palpable, and it is apparent that there are many divergent ideas on the subject. I think we can all agree that whatever it is the gubmint is doing, no matter who is doing it, it ain’t workin’ (which is why so many of us ain’t workin’ either),
It’s not a matter of right…[Read more] -

Whatever else can be said here, “A good source to recommend would be FoxNews” is mistaken. If you are concerned to be well informed then you should run as fast and as far away from FOX as you can.

Thanks for the pointers. How much do these titles count anyways? My title, if anything, would be landscape designer, but as a designer I have managed projects. My office doesn’t really give out titles, at least not for me, so if a hiring manager looks at my resume and see landscape designer instead of PM or associate or whatever, would he…[Read more]

There are many ways to arrange a resume. Listing by firm/title is one. Another is to list (and expand on) roles/functions/skills. Prepare a resume that does the best job of presenting your skills

chad, do you realize that these tax cuts that you are so enthusiastic about have been in place for ten years – so this will be business as usual. Bush drove the economy into the ground with his anti-regulatory policies and the tax cuts and the unfunded war. Clinton helped with the repeal of Glass-steagall..

here’s Nouriel Roubini, one of my favorite economists, really interesting if you ever catch him on C-span or Charlie Rose
“So, in conclusion the verdict from history and empirical evidence is quite clear. Supply side economics is “voodoo economics”. Reductions in tax rates (starting from initial moderate tax rate levels) do not siginificantly…[Read more] -

Chad, the tax cut package WAS the conservative line – repubs insist that a dollar back in taxes to people and businesses brings in more work, despite the evidence of the past eight years of tax policies as well as all the studies to the contrary. So in this tax package, the conservatives got what they wanted – tax cuts for all, despite the fact…[Read more]

They should be, but too many dinosaurs plodding around.
Some are faster and more adept at predict trends: the stock market never really broke the established indicator trends. They survive, and the rest, well, don’t – at least in a market driven economy right? I don’t buy the government control aspect: infrastructure work has always had su…[Read more] -

Looks like recent SoCal weather will result in a bit of work for some residential LAs: http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/40779006/ns/weather
Earthquakes, wildfires, hurricanes, floods…of course we don’t hope for them, but they do create a lot of work, along with a chance to rebuild better. -

I wonder why there are so many different types of programs out there. It is wierd that a person can go to school for 3 years and get an MLA while someone else has a BLA that took 5 years and still others have a 4 year BSLA. In many ways these three degrees are all at the same level and some states arbitrarily put one over the other as far as experience.

Adapting to conditions is what all business does all of the time. The difference right now is that government has been hugely influencing what is going on and no one knows what to adapt to. They are al over the place and generally targeting their beneficiaries. Every time something is steared in one direction, it is steared away from where it was…[Read more]

Chris,
I have to agree wtih Mark. NYS OOP denied me 9 months of work experience because the firm was not licensed to call itself an LA firm similar to Mark’s case.
