I think on a social site it seemed more descriptive – don’t remember why I checked that box, but in describing what one does, Associate doesn’t do much for visual images…
And don’t forget “landscraper” for honorary titles…
You are right, my bad…I will never speak the words Landscape Architect again! -

Agreed, Henry. This subject has been discussed on this site before but it still baffles and infuriates me that some in this field demand respect and recognition for the profession yet want to take shortcuts to earning the professional title. This attitude serves nothing except to dilute the profession and confuse the general public as to the…[Read more]

Trace, you may be qualified to throw stones but you are not qualified to have ‘Landscape Architect’ in your ‘TITLE’ if you have not passed the exam…… has California changed their requirements for a Landscape Architect? Unless a person has passed the LARE, they are a landscape designer or some other type of professional. Just being nit picky 🙂

lol Yeah, site engineering was my least favorite class and I too got a C-. I had a great professor and despite my grade, learned a lot but preferred to focus my attention on the “big idea” creative aspects of design classes at the time. Now I appreciate the fact that “how” things get built is very much a part of design. Plus it’s good for the old…[Read more]

It is so interesting to see where people (myself included) go with these questions!
Dan– I think you want to know how much of a given volume of water will be used over a period of time? If so—-
This is a rule of thumb I use (based on my experience, and a little lower geometry/math): A continuous flow of 1 cubic inch of water will require…[Read more]

The Trouble Asset Relief Program, TARP, bailing out the banks…that is creating a basis for L.A. jobs? How so? By making them more able to lend again? The banks are in better shape again and are back to giving out the fat bonuses, but they’re still not lending. From what I’ve read, their requirements are much more restrictive now.

Van,
Jobs for L.A. is going to be based on solid sustainable technologies and Federal Gov. funded programs, such as TARP, TIGR and so on. You’re idea of MIddle Eastern Art to attract well-heeled clients is to put it mildly a little bit off the mark, as to real jobs that will sustain this profession and maybe help you pay off your school loans.…[Read more]

What about pursuing a degree that is not related to Landscape Architecture? A degree in middle eastern art studies (or something of the sort) could really bring some flare to your designs, and attract more clients…I am currently at UC Davis to achieve a BS in Landscape Architecture, and I hope to pursue a Master’s in fine arts, to bring another…[Read more]

So, are you tying into a river upstream and then releasing the water back into the river down stream?
Is the “switch” / valve going to be electric? I.e. a “plug” of water is sent down the runnel every 10 or 15 min.
You could also design a system that acts like Japanese bamboo fountain (shishi odoshi) but on a massive scale. You can then just set…[Read more]

go figure, Jason, I can’t tell you any more other than it was in the early nineties, the Arboretum was new – I didn’t check it out very much before signing up for a ‘booth’, and was shocked at the flea market stuff myself..Didn’t sell a single t-shirt needless to say…

ok, this is an open site to ridicule me – I can take it! Perhaps I can draw some fire and cyncism from other site..
I did make my own t-shirts once – each individually hand painted, I made about 30 of them, and tried to sell them for $25 each at the National Arboretum in Wash. D.C. at some kind of crafts fair..Everything around me was priced…[Read more]

Wow. First of all thank you for all your thoughtful and obviously informed input. Upon seeing your responses, there does appear to be some additional information it looks like I should provide:
– The runnel will be completely gravity fed (no pump anticipated) with slopes that may vary between 0.5% to 1%.
– The system will not be recirculating.…[Read more] -

Thanks for posting this, it is quite useful for my job search! =D
Going with what landplanner said, many of these have been posted for a while, although we can’t see that here on your posting. Is there a way to add a column to your postings that give the date in which they were originally posted?
