I think I just had the same thought below Andrew.
It seems so simple doesnt it? Just like coupling an irrigation leak. I thought the pipe could be corrugated with some flex and several times the diameter as to help alleviate the pressure. The end could be a mechanically/robotically sealable coupling end with rubber-like flexible fitting to…[Read more]

I saw this video a couple weeks ago and thought, ‘well, how will we collect the hay?’ without giving it much thought, then I saw the comment about the netted hay. I hope there’s at least one school studio working on shore cleanup/oil mitigation projects.
It seems logical enough to build a perimeter around the slick or along potentially affected…[Read more]

L.A.R.E. – ANYTHING GOES 15 years, 11 months agoI took section C. My plan was to get through the test on my trace without putting it on the test sheets. Get them worked out and leave the labeling and all that for the end. I thought it was a good plan since I got through it with a few hours to spare. I checked them over and then started putting them from my trace onto the sheets. With about an…[Read more]

Quick question: Are you getting paid by Caltrans and the taxpayers of California for posting this garbage? FYI: There are a lot of unemployed LAs nationwide chomping at the bit for work right now and that looks really bad that you’re on Land8 throughout the work day posting. You criticize anyone who doesn’t have your same values (environmentalism…[Read more]

Yeah, like a giant ball valve! The image below shows the pipe. What I wonder is; why such a shut-off valve doesn’t exist below that junction.

In the future, why not lay a pad of concrete with the all of the pluming in place. Then open the valve on the plumbing, the drill fits into the pipe, through the open valve, then drill through the…[Read more]

Wow, I’ve never seen a discussion on land8 get this sarcastic. It’s kind of funny, except for the subject.
I think I saw some treehugger article about Kevin Costner coming up with a solution to the oil spill. I didn’t bother reading it at the time but now I might track it down and post a link. -

The wider the pipe, the lower the pressure. I’d guess that the problem in trying to stop it is fighting the pressure. I have to wonder if they could not place a 20′ (or 50′) wide pipe with a mechanism that could close after in is properly anchored and sealed below the high pressure leak, while letting the oil and pressure blow through as it is…[Read more]

One more thing about Christo and the oil images–
My analysis, and an admitted amateur one at that, is that both the photographs of the oil and the Christo work is for the viewer terribly ironic. The juxtaposition of the viceral beauty and the pending destruction. The christo and jean-claude work is ironic also in the same way while touching on…[Read more]

Thanks.
Don’t get me wrong. I appreciate the attitude and snarkiness, but I want to encourage more people to contribute. I dont think we have a large and dedicated community here yet to afford scaring people away with poli-talk and straight out ego-bashing.
Feel free to pick on me all you want. I need the practice.

You should be a creative writing major!
While I like your ideas, unfortunately, I won’t be able to contribute to the national hair reef (see profile picture) which leaves me feeling a bit left out…but I say go for it!
If I were you, I might try the drinking straw approach first because you will get hairballs caught in your throat if the failed…[Read more]

I didn’t say anything about your ideas Trace. You have a vivid imagination, thanks for sharing!
My only point is that this is a forum for design ideas and discussion and I’d like to hear or see more (ideas and discussion). I’m fine with unsolicited criticism, just please keep it constructive and tactful.

Cliff,
We just finished a webinar series with Daniel Tal that was great at showing the possibilities of SketchUp. His book is also very informative and easy to follow. Check out the SketchUp forum or the SketchUp group if you’d like to learn more!

Christo calling – from the grave – told me to tell you that you are glue, he is rubber, etc….

Heard them both speak, at the Gates. I loved the Gates, really loved it..But they are charlatans, I truely beleive, I never liked anything else they did – and those photos really illustrate to me finally why I don’t like Christo – it is death. The plastic wrapping is death of a biotic system..The Gates were not.
