Hello all! Many of you have asked when I would come out with a drawing book. I am delighted to announce that after nine months of writing and another six of book design and production, my book Freehand Drawing and Discovery: Urban Sketching and Concept Drawing for Designers, has been released by John Wiley and Sons. The book’s Amazon page and the reviews sum it up pretty well…please check it out. Keep dreaming, and keep drawing!

Congratulations! Can’t wait to get my copy.

I teach an undergraduate landscape drawing class and picked up this book last week. It is, without a doubt, the best book on drawing I know of for landscape architects – particularly relevant for design drawing that is most useful in contemporary practice. Worth reading.

Truly talented. Beautiful!!!

How can I get a signed copy?

Hi Kevin; thanks for the note, and thanks so much for your interest in the book. I don’t have books for sale here; all that’s handled through the publisher. Are you coming to national ASLA in Boston in November? I’ll be signing books there at the bookstore in the ASLA Commons. You could also buy one on Amazon, send it to me with return postage (3344 Hamilton Ave, Fort Worth TX, 76107), and i could sign and send it back.

I bought a copy last week and it is a game changer. I wish I would have had this book in college.

One thing I want to point out is the card in the very back cover that is a series of videos that Jim did showing you various drawing techniques. Go check them out. Thanks for pointing these out to me Jim. I have referenced them multiple times and they have really helped me draw differently.

Just got the book. Looking forward to reviewing all the beautiful drawings and using the techniques!
